Just had a flash of insight due to your wonderful explanation of why the elements for manipura and svadisthana are reversed here. For a long time I have been thinking that seeking a successful career is not compatible with seeking a biological family. This explains it! If you want to 'get things done', have an amazing career, make a mark on the world through masterful work (ambitious impulse), you must fire up manipura. Children and spouses (reproductive impulse) get in the way of the ambition, drive and all-consuming passion involved in masterful work so you must cool svadisthana if you are on this path. If you want to make your mark on the world through masterful family construction, you must fire up svadisthana. In Adi Shankaracharya's time this must have made sense when infant mortality was probably high and seeking to really build a large family was just as important an undertaking as mastering science, art, music, or other career paths. I think we moderns have it wrong, we want to put fire under manipura at the same time we want to put it under svadisthana. We should choose; it's better if we do this for self, potential spouse and potential children. @rocky112100 @Jyotsna Wadhawan
