Today I attempt to tackle the difficult video request of explaining how to control energy going out and how to maximize air intake through breathing exercises. All my knowledge in this area is self discovered through years of training and at home research. I hope you enjoy the episode and find it helpful.

This may sound like a dumb question, but it’s genuine. We’re talking about how to inhale deeply, and exhale with each strike in a combination. My question is, when is the ideal time to inhale after a strike or after a combination? Basically, is it in good practice to inhale between strikes? Or should you wait until the combination is complete to inhale? For further context, I was taught that if you know you’re going to receive a strike to the body, you should exhale strongly with the impact, because if you’re caught on an inhale, that will disrupt your breathing pattern. I hope this makes sense! Just curious to see what actual opinions on this are because I feel like no one actually asks “when to breathe in” because it seems like such an obvious thing to even ponder.
@williamdavis3590
@williamdavis3590 2 жыл бұрын
I think pretty much when you're not exhaling 🤨 inhaling is a natural reaction to the exhale - which matters more for striking and being struck (inhaling of course is still important haha). So I guess I'm saying whenever you can get away with it (not striking or being struck). However I think it's automatic as a response to monitoring the exhale - that's my answer. I'd be curious to hear someone else's opinion too though

I'm not necessarily muscular or toned, however I have a pretty well developed cardio tank through my breathing control that I used during my BJJ rounds, it took a bit to trainsition from grappling to striking but for me it worked incredibly well.

I have my corner raise my arms up over my head between rounds and let my jaw hang. It works for me, it's like a mini meditation break. I also don't sit down between rounds, I catch my breath back faster when I stand vs when I sit. When I sat I always felt like I put my body in "stop mode" and it made it harder to get back into the grove of things when I got up again. And pre fight poops are a must, lol I poop at least three times before I fight. Got a master class tournament coming up in a few months, time to get back into the grind after taking a two recovery week break.

One question is in the fight, in your opinion, when is it safe to breathe in only when you step out of range? You don’t want to be hit when breathing in, when being hit especially to the body right?

I was out sicc for the past 2-3 weeks, but I just went back to kickboxing yesterday. I did fine, but my cardio has been compromised from the damn virus. I was turning bright red/pink, my heart was doing triple beats, and my temples were consistently pulsating. We usually go right into wrestling drills after sparring, but I had to call it* quits early and listen to my body. I need to ween back into training, so I don't get sicc all over again. Thanks for this video. It just so happens to pertain to what I'm currently going through. Perfect Timing. 💪

Hi , thank you for another great video. Not a kickboxer here . However your videos are always interesting. Questions:1. What percent do you brace the core ? 2. How do you work this : Do you do sets of the abs tightening exercise? Are you keeping the abs tigh during a fight or do you always keep the brace the core all day long?
@GabrielVargaOfficial
@GabrielVargaOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
I brace the core close to 100% during core training at home. It's usually just a 15-30 second squeeze a number of random times through the day. I tense my stomach anytime I'm in range of attacks during a fight. Not always 100% but enough that I'm protected.

I think this is awesome that you're talking about and sharing these breathing techniques. I'm a free diver, and I've been integrating breathing and breath holding exercises into my training and shadow boxing. When calm, I can breathe in 20 seconds, out 40 seconds. I'm sure that's hard to believe, but I'd love to chat about it if you're ever interested. That goes for anybody reading this. BTW, I'm super impressed with the athlete you mentioned that can get her heart rate up to 180 bpm with breathing!

@KelpWolf
@KelpWolf 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not a competition diver, I do it for spearfishing, and being a dad of two little ones, I'm a bit out of practice. I actually don't really track my static breath hold, it's probably 3:30-4:00. I focus on my walking breath hold, about 1:45-2:00 when I'm in good shape, about 1:30 right now. A high-intensity breathing rhythm I learned in college track (sprinting) that has been very useful is two strides in breath, one stride out breath, explosive exhale. When at ~80% output, this would be 3 in, 2 out. I haven't tried it in sparring but I'm curious if something similar might be useful. I like your method of quick breaths during combos, then deep breaths on defense or when gliding out of range.

I think I have natural crazy endurance because I hit the bag in 4 minute sessions at 5 rounds,,,, 20 minutes of bag work and I take a 1 minute breather afterward 4 minutes of bag work but that 1 minute is spent doing push-ups and standing military presses at 50lbs. Now this 4 minute thing I've done for years because before I really knew a lot about training to fight I used to think 4 minutes ain't shit because I compared it to other things,,,,when I realized guys usually do in general 2 to 3minute sessions on a bag for however many rounds the light bulb went on in my head, I said to myself dude your smoking these dudes your doing 4 minute sessions at 5 rounds, and no ots not sloppy or just going through the motions I'm actually in the state of mind of I'm in a fight for my life any down time I die. If that happens and it does I do get tired sometimes I do 10 push-ups and immediately start hitting the bag again till my 4 minutes are up.ive done this for 15 years not changing it because now it's my warm up lol
