Energy Shield - how does it work and how do you get gear for it?

Energy Shield is a type of effective HP in Path of Exile that offers different advantages and drawbacks than those of life builds. There are several different ways of using Energy shield, as well as gearing for it.

Even if you get it, it''s impossible to role your prefered modifiers yourself except you have 2 digit hours of time playing a day to farm like at least 2,5k alterations, 5-10ex plus some influenced ex and awakener orbs (which is also 3-6ex each) if it is, like ziz try to tell us, there would be waaaay more items everybody is looking for. But most the time there are rarely more than 2-3 items like this at the whole market

If you have a high ES shield, you can take increased shield defense nodes for a pretty boost. There's also a ring mod I think that does that... from Jun missions If I recall correctly

This league is the first time I tried ES build, one thing I'm not sure about is i heard long time ago that having 5k ES is not the same as having 5k life because armour/evasion works different for ES being less effective, is that true? I think It was Abyss Legue when ppl were saying that and that was the time when ES was compeletely OP and You could reach 50 or even 100k ES so was that the case back then and is not anymore?

I have several Questions regarding Es/Ci. How important is stun Immunity.How do i reg Es i dont get it i read the wiki a few times but i still dont get it especially if it comes to Wicked Ward and different sources of Regen. Like ghostshroud, Vile Bastion, Leech, Zealoth Oth, Chest enchant with Flat regen, regen while Rare nearby, Es on kill (Leech?) and many more. What is affectet by the normal 2s delay and what is not ?

Stun immunity on ES characters is very important because stun in game is normally determined by how much life you have so if you go CI, you will be getting stunned a lot. Unlike life, ES has a natural base regeneration to it, although it's not that good. All of the sources of regen/leech you mentioned all factor into how much ES you will be gaining when you regen. If you are looking to speed up the 2 second delay, you need to either take the notable Wicked Ward on the tree (beware that it halves your regen) or look for the stat "faster start of energy shield recharge"

Flask don’t Regen life, you Recover life If I not wrong 5-8 year ago flask were actually working with the previous version of the node

Yeah life flasks don't work. You'll need to get es regen elsewhere. Why it's usually harder to build for and not recommended for new players

You need high ES to be es. Having a high effective life pool is your entire defense strat. So no. If you aren't going to craft/buy good gear for es, don't play es. It's a more advanced style as you need to layer on your defenses while maintaining 7k+ es

You have the keystone Eldritch Battery either on your passives or on one of your gear. It makes your shield apply to mana instead of life.

"Problem" with ES is no regen unless you havent taken damage for a while, and a bit harder to get leech as ES. I say "problem" since the upsides make up for this problem :)

If you are dying a lot with life based builds, es won't help. ES requires heavier investment and more in depth understand of defense mechanics

If you are dying a lot, look at your armour, block and Dodge. Pick one to try and boost. Try to get blind somewhere to help lower the amount of hits that land. Slow or freeze enemies. Make sure you are using defensive flasks. etc

Max block chance is also super important. I cannot understate how good block is. And if you have max block and a %es on block shield you will have much better defences against normal packs.

Yes, though with CI stun is calculated based on the HP you WOULD have, if you didn't have CI. That's still usually very low, since a CI build isn't going to build health, but ES also gives a flat 50% chance to not get stunned while you have any.

Occultist has a node to be immune as long as you have es. Also there are unique to make you immune to stun. You can also try to stack stun recovery. ES is bit harder and more in depth to build than lifr

About crafting ES you can fiddle with it in craft of exile using the emulator. Some times it might be more worth it spamming essence of woe other times just using alteration until you get a good roll, then regal it and from there just use harvest to make it the perfect item. The only thing you have to know is when an item is bricked or not, meaning if you can remove or change a stat without having to gamble for it. For example ES Is a defense prefix but what if you also get a really low roll of armor, then you can’t use the remove defense horticraft because both are prefix defense rolls so you would be gambling your really high ES roll and stuff like that, you can see all of that clearly on the emulator, just grab the base for the piece you are looking and play with it.
