The 19th edition of the George Enescu International Competition introduced an exciting new element: the Masterclass of Conducting, Instrumental Performance, and Advanced Music Study. This last part of the Enescu Competition took place between September 23-27, 2024, at the iconic Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest.
For the first time in the competition’s history, conducting took center stage, alongside instrumental performance workshops for violin, cello, and piano. Under the expert guidance of Maestro Cristian Măcelaru and with the participation of the Romanian Youth Orchestra, six promising conductors-selected through a rigorous process by the Maestro-embarked on a journey to refine their craft:
Kyrian Friedenberg (USA)
Omar El Jamali (Morocco)
Eu-Lee Nam (South Korea)
Ana Spasovska (North Macedonia)
Harris Han (USA)
Alex Amsel (USA)
At the end of the Masterclass, on 27 September 2024, three of the six conductors were chosen to condcut the Romanian Youth Orchestra during the final concert of the Enescu Competition.
