His usage of Disruptors and High Templars is beautiful. Who knew Stalkers could be such reliable frontliners? If they get low, blink them away, and send in the Cavalry in the form of Zealots. 😂😂 If the High Templars have used their Psi Storms, immediately merge them into Archons for more frontliners to reinforce the Stalkers, and keep the beefy/hard-hitting Immortals alive in the back line. If those Immortals become exposed, well they are tanky as hell to hold the line until more warp ins occur from the Warp Prisms, while Zealots go from cavalry to covert ops on Maru’s mineral lines/military defenses. Been watching SC2 since 2013 and this is the best GSL finals I can remember and definitely in the conversation for best sc2 starleague finals period... simply because of how amazing the matchup was, herO VS Maru, all the storylines, this was truly the two highest level players right now duking it out, you cannot ask for more than that as a fan of sc2. I haven't seen a Protoss player play this perfectly ever, even with the slight little micro mistakes (2 with disruptors that I can remember), his control was 99.8% perfect and his decision making was 99.9% perfect. Maru is one of my top 3 favorite players and I was rooting against him to be honest. HerO's new idea about immortals is so cool. In order to take down disruptors quickly, Maru is supposed to build marauders. Therefore, adding some immortals to protect (by fire forces) the disruptors maybe the key idea about this unit composition. Protoss is really a race about sheilding to each unit.
@ThanhLe-ti8nx2 жыл бұрын
storm-immortal vs bio has been around since WoL, the idea is storm will kill the marine, wound the marauder and immortal will just 1-shot them. Liberator is the most reliable unit to deal with disruptor, mass marauder won't work in the long run. But then Maru just can't afford liberator with his economy (if you're referring to game 2)
@mark11tz2 жыл бұрын

Certainly but not only that. Top Protoss players in the last years always tried to max out on skytoss as quickly as possible, because it was the savest option (basically you almost cant die in the early game, so you can spent the next 15 minutes to build up your deathball). But top tier terran and especially zerg players learned to deal with those armies very efficiently, thats why protoss didnt win any large tournaments. Then skytoss got a slight nerf with the voids and suddenly protoss players learn how to use ground armies again, which always were powerfull. Save for a heavy broodlord or lurker army i think groundtoss can deal with any composition. Hero just shows the potiential groundtoss always had. Has did something similar, as Reynor does now (when he plays protoss) but both arent quite at Heros level (well with protoss that is). And the best thing for use viewers is, the games are much more action packed that way 🙂

One of the crazy things about this series is how every time Maru pulled SCV's, it accomplished basically nothing. Recently and historically Protosses have been destroyed by it quite often. Hero's focus on Blink stalkers with constant micro, rather than mass Zealot, and his usage of Sentry forcefields rendered the SCV pull essentially useless every time. Maru would have been better off leaving the boys at home.
@Whalery2 жыл бұрын
He would if he wasn't behind in those games. The SCV pull is the choice most Terran players use when they are behind or so far behind. And apparently, Maru was behind in those games, be in game 1, game 2, or even game 4 (albeit slightly compared to the previous games). The high level micro of herO is what stopping it from working. Any micro mistake might kill herO, but he is too good to die.
@rnf1232 жыл бұрын
@@WhaleryYes, Hero had a lead, but It's not just that. It's that the Zealot composition is nullified by SCV's but Stalkers are not. SCVs are extremely effective vs Zealot heavy comps because they body exhaust the charge of the melee only Zealots and body block them from getting damage on the terran bio. Maru should have realized that in the absence of mass Zealot, an SCV pull is useless, but he didn't realize what was happening and didn't make the adjustment .

@kenm62262 жыл бұрын
@Haoxus ...Nice nuianced understanding of the game. Imagine viewing that level of tactical brilliance, smashing Maru in code S finals, and boiling it down to "stocker disruptor zealots". The difference was that he went extremely heavy on immortals in the late game, often protoss tend to favour collossus and archons for that consistant splash output while the disruptors force disengagements and break formations, but in his case it was a massive army of immortals shelling out that constant damage in place of the spash. It worked out in the position the game was in, because Maru was relying so heavily on marauders in that position and low tech units in general, so every time he pushed in he would have to dodge the disruptor shots while constantly bleeding marauders to the immortals. And it was very robust with the immortals, hard to engage head on.
@daolong512792 жыл бұрын
@@haoxus9413 haha... Well, it's like Hero used the units that were working for the situation instead of falling back on preconceived "I build this comp and I win" type thinking. Tempests when siege is needed, immortals when marauders are rampant and even a 4 gate stalker response to brutal opening damage from Maru. Best of all? And then you realize after all these seasons they are still not able to match the seat color with the in game color… it has to be an intentional meme by now. Great games, great casting, great season. I can’t wait for more. Thanks to Afreeca for continuing this saga :)

This is officially the best year of SC2 ever. If Maru wins G5L in season 3 this year, we can go ahead and shut it down. We've peaked.

Awesome finals, really loved it. Bit odd tho that Tastosis are talking about reverse sweeps at one point and can't remember that awesome fight between Trap and Maru a year ago.

Which hinged entirely on Trap turning his Tempests the wrong way, or it would have been a 4-0
