I'm 70 years old I brought my first motorcycle at 13 and I have ridden and owned many bikes over my life time and I still have my cb1100 Honda its not as heavy as its wet weight not dry, being air oil cooled it won't corrode out like many water cooled bikes, it's one of the best bikes to ride and very comfortable, don't be afraid to own one yourself. A friend had a Honda CBX 1000 in the 80s but my favourite bike's are the Kawasaki GPZ 550&750 Turbo.

Agreed - a very fair review and its honesty is borne out by the fact that Honda have made many of the changes he's suggested in the new 2014 EX version.

Yes many of the shortcomings were addressed in 2014 and even an extra gear added...very nice. The bike looks phenomenal in all black with black engine and for those who like spokes...you can get them and speaking for myself...you can have them. I've never liked spokes. I like the simple elegance of well made, light looking mags, not only from the functional standpoint, but certainly from the maintenance point as well. Yoshimura makes a nice 4/1 pipe for this bike in chrome or black and that would be my first mod. As far as commuting goes, I commuted for 15 years on California highways using 3 different naked bikes and never felt put out. Rifle or someone like them will make a bikini fairing for this machine soon enough for those who want the cafe look and the additional wind protection. My next bike !

I bought the black on black 2014 version 7 years ago and immediately installed a full Arrow 4 into 1 exhaust system to wake her up. Such a sweet ride I'll never part with her.

Great review. Marek's english is excellent. And he is spot on. The bike is priced quite high IMO but bear in mind that it's a modern bike with retro look. 2014 version comes with spokes, retro seat and 2 exhausts. More attractive but not a commuter bike as he said. This is a second or a third bike for passionate bikers.

+Jaroslav Kral why wouldnt this be a good commuter bike. Low COG, easy to handle despite the weight, available rack + topcase, underseat storage, optional heated grips. Etc

Pozdrawiam!

On a personal level I much prefer alloy wheels easier to clean. However, I do like the spoked wheels Harley fit on some of their machines - Black rims with stainless steel spokes.

It depends on your styling preferences I guess. CB1100 is thoroughly modern, and it goes like stink before you get pulled off it by the wind ;) Despite its visual shortcomings, it is more practical and safer than the W650 (or W800 for that matter). It's got proper disc brakes, ABS. I have heard "unofficially" from a Honda employee there will be some modifications next year (muffler, wheels, trip computer).

I LOVE this review! With so many totally positive reviews elsewhere it is refreshing to hear a few criticisms - such as the HORRIBLE 4-into1 exhaust with that huge muffler. I will wait to see if maybe next year's model has spoke wheels and 4-into-4 exhaust, as it should. I have owned a 2001 W650 for ten years - should I trade it in for the CB1100?

The EX is so much nicer than this Standard Version, the bike the CB110 should've been at launch !!! Pity you don't mention the Moto-Guzzi V7 Stone with the other mentioned bikes in the review as it's lovely and a hell of a lot cheaper too !!!

Nice video mate, I agree with your opinion this bike needs spoke wheels badly and two exhaust cans at least with more sound and soul. Although the bike is bland it is beautiful anyway but for that price Honda could have done a better job.

Excellent review man! I considered this bike but Honda stopped importing them into Australia. Underpowered and overpriced apparently. Yamaha make a brilliant XJR 1300 however, I went for a Kawasaki ZRX 1200r which reminds me of my misspent youth..

Ill cut him a break on the English, well done with that. The bike review seemed lacking. Not mentioning any real technical aspects of this machine. Wind blast and saying dress up the guages seem not essential. Its like reviewing a car about its cup holders. Anyway i have a 14 and its a great bike plus Honda discounted them 2000.00 so I love my 8k dollar bike.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 9 жыл бұрын
+70DMac I focus on usability, so when I do car reviews, I do mention cup holders ;) Unless it's a performance machine, talking too much about technical aspects doesn't make sense IMO.

He sounds like one of those annimated figures with a robot voice. Not a very good review at all. Sounds like a typical novice reviewing something hes not knowledgable about and hasent gotten familiar with. The quality is high, the fit and finish is superb and the balance and weight ratio are fine. All parts are top quality, the brakes are awesome. Its a naked bike, of coarse you feel the wind. The people who buy this bike already know exactly what their getting.
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 9 жыл бұрын
+70DMac On the contrary. Many people buy bikes, cars based on emotions. Hell, I'd love to have a CB1100, but it makes no sense for me. I ride mainly around town, I need storage, etc. An NC700/750 with DCT is what I really need. Or a scooter. But I didn't know that, until I've ridden several different bike.

i dont get it,honda will make a bike with old parts/technology, its super heavy & price it really high,where is the logic behind that?
@scope52005
@scope52005 10 жыл бұрын
IT's not using old parts it's a newly designed Fuel injected engine based off the newer cb1300. It's made to look retro with modern tech. The 2014 has a 6th gear and better dash.

I have a 2001 Harley Sportster, and it was only six thousand brand new.. I don't understand why this Honda is so expensive? Much more than a comparable Sportster.. I have always liked Honda, but this new one seems to have a lot of cheap plastic bits all over it, and poor suspension components. Where is the money here?
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 9 жыл бұрын
Trevor Jameson There's an even more expensive EX model, which fixes all of the stylistic problems I spoke about in this review. I like the Sportster, but IMO this is better.
@trevorjameson3213
@trevorjameson3213 9 жыл бұрын
Well it is true the Sportster, especially the older models with solid engine mounts (like mine), feels quite crude to ride. I guess I'm just used to it after all these years.
@Erikootje
@Erikootje 9 жыл бұрын
+Trevor Jameson the ex models wet weight is 260kg....and you talk like it has plastic bits all over it. Think again. Its one of the easiest handling bikes on the market and all componenst are up to descent level. While the suspension might not be A level (why should it be in this class?) is certainly is not poor as you put it.

Burn this and never review a bike again. Nothing personal, just not really a good review in my opinion... You say, you would replace the wheels with spooked rims, Why? There's no point to that except to add costs to the bike that aren't needed and I prefer tubeless tires myself. (QUEUE the Shatner reference) Otherwise, you're breaking up your phrases like a bad 1960s Sci-fi actor.

Alicia Wise This may sound funny, but if I were to spend my money on a new motorcycle, it would probably be a Honda NC700/750X, possibly with the touring package. I don't need anything more. That said I used to own a Kawasaki Zephyr, which looked similar to CB1100. Great bike, just not very practical in everyday use.
@hellodomo8003
@hellodomo8003 8 жыл бұрын
Not funny at all; the NC700 seems like great fun. Many people here think that they must have something with insane amounts of horsepower/torque instead of something lightweight and agile in order to have a fun experience. Thank you for your response! Love the old bikes. I had a 1985 Honda CMX250 and a 1980 Honda CX500! Also, I appreciate your honest reviews. Much respect.

Its funny that you should say this, I own a CB1100 for weekend blasts and a Vespa GTS300 for around town, I am also thinking of getting an NC750X for touring, I'm just worried I might find it boring compared to the CB1100, but then I still would have the CB1100 for weekend blasts so maybe the NC is all I need for touring? What's your thoughts? Your vid summed up the CB well, regards, Paul.
