Third generation Renault Twingo is rear-wheel drive and the engine is also mounted in the back. As a result it offers more space inside, than the model it replaces. Is it a tiny Porsche or just a tiny car?
The test car is top spec 1.0 SCe model. Extra equipment includes:
• Metallic paint
• Connect&Go infotainment system
• Climate control
• 16" Embleme alloy wheels
• Piano black elements of the interior
• Grey upholstery with red finish
• Removable bag instead of glovebox

Good review. Renault sacrifice so much space and usability for turning radius,and criple Twingo.Shame,first generation is still unmatched,because they made life style car not real life usable car.

The thing I'd be worried about is effective cooling, that little vent on the side doesn't seem adequate

Marek, Thank you for your reviews & covering the important aspects of what to look out for in a new car purchase. Far more useful than the Boy Racer aspects. Do you know which city car is currently rated as number 1?
@MarekDrives

According to CarSalesBase Fiat 500 is number one in Europe. carsalesbase.com/european-sales-2017-minicar-segment/#more-48852 Personally I'd probably buy a fully specced up!.

Thank you. Strange that the Fiat makes it to number one position when it has a Not Recommended status in North America. Not sure if it is due to reliability but it seems most of Chrysler Division suffers from the same unfavourable rating. Since I am new to the European Market, I am considering the UP or one of it's variants. Appreciate the suggestion.

US-spec 500 is made in Mexico, so quality may be different from the EU-spec car (which is made in Poland BTW).

Good review. You said you were going to explain the method in the madness about the bonnet mechanism design! Why have renault designed it this way?
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 9 жыл бұрын
Yes. I was referring to the turning radius. Renault wanted all the space in the front to make the wheels turn more sideways. Storage under the bonnet would only hinder their efforts. Hence it opens just to let you replace the battery and add fluids. BTW, I wouldn't want to be the one doing it. Access is difficult.

My MK1 Focus with the 1.6 Zetec uses less fuel than this 3 cylinder... Thing... I can go around town with 7,5 liters with that. It's older, bigger, more powerful, yet it needs less fuel. One of the biggest perks of driving a car like this (aside from how small it is), is that it consumes less than a normal car.

Awesome review (of course). Marek it's time to go to a bigger car (4-5 seats), because now I have a Smart Roadster Coupe Brabus (2 seats) and I'm considering to buy the Renault Twingo 90hp. I know that it's a HUGE change from a coupe speed car to a city car, but it's time. So can you tell me more about the wind noises? Are too annoying? Because with Smart Roadster I think I'm used it and after 120-140km/h I think it's terrible. So it's better at Twingo? Also I will drive most in the city, but I believe I will make also few trips (5-10) in motorways in the next 3 years. The most long journey will be at 500-800 kilometers with top speed at 140 - 160 km/h and the most journeys will be between 150-300km. Can Twingo handle this (or can I handle it, inside the Twingo :) )? Thanks in advance, Thodoris from Greece
@MarekDrives
@MarekDrives 8 жыл бұрын
+Thodoris Psathas Let's put it this way. Back in the day Poles used to drive their Fiats 126p as far as Croatia or Greece for vacation. 30 years have passed since then, cars advanced, so the Twingo should not have a problem driving this far. As for comfort... It's like a smart.

+Marek Drives Thanks for the reply. With a 2004 car with no adjustable seats, very hard (sporty) suspension I think Twingo will be a little bit better at comfort than my Smart Roadster.What do you think?

8 liters in city cycle? That's insane. My Daihatsu Cuore from 2003 had a city cycle of 5.5 to 6 liters with a naturally aspirated 1.0 L engine (58hp). It was a very practical and fun to drive car, very agile in the city. Unfortunately highly advanced corrosion separated us. Otherwise I'd still be driving it. Compared to my Cuore the Twingo is a shitty car. It's a shame Daihatsu is not in Europe anymore.

Twingo first gen. was the best Twingo, second gen was not so good, and the third one is the worst Twingo ever. Sorry Renault but look at Hyundai i10! Marek, great review as usual.

Andrej Krusic That's the problem with downsizing. It looks good on paper, less so in real life. A lot depends on driving style of the driver, and other people around him. I'm not sure what it's like in your country, but in Poland people tend to drive faster than the speed limit, and going slow (i.e. according to the limit) leads to other drivers cutting you off. So you end up driving a bit faster, and coasting a bit less, than for example in the Netherlands, where exceeding the speed limit by 4-5 km/h costs 60 euros.

Marek Drives I do drive slow, because I have 2 kids in the back, but even when I am alone its hard to get over 10l/100 km. So 8 l is very bad for such a small engine and low weight of the car. PS Love your reviews, keep up the good work.
