'queerness as cash cow'? how does that work? focusing on a minority, one that has been shunned for a long time and still gets discriminated against by many governments and billions of people on this planet - how can that be a cash cow? if anything it is a financial risk

@@embreis2257 You'll be surprised my friend on how selfish this world is. Let me explain with an example, I myself am a bi woman so when I was introduced to the world of BLs I was pleasantly surprised because I didn't have to wait for Netflix or other mainstream platforms to represent my community as main leads at their convenience. But my God did I realize how toxic it was. First of all, most BL do not consider their target audience to be Lgbtq+ community (on which the story is based) but rather straight woman, who often times than not, are homophobic. These group of people love to fetishize gay people and when it comes to actually supporting their rights, they bring the most backlash. The representation of Lgbtq+ community is so inaccurate and toxic in those series (example, top/bottom, masculine top/ feminine bottom) because they only care about what looks good to them STRAIGHT PRODUCERS AND WRITERS. And the most infuriating of all, there is no lgbtq+ cast or crew involved in the series and that's how you know that those producers are shit. Now there is good media out their too who does not use queerness as mere cash cows >Young Royals (Sweden show available on Netflix amazing writing and cast. Have genuine care and respect for the community) >Heartstopper (same reason as above) > Not me (was so much more than just a bl, representing Thai culture and struggles. Bonus, actually have queer crew on board) > The Eighth Sense (followed the struggles of mental trauma and acceptance of reality) Most BLs have just reduced down to sex and skinships, story and plot are basically non existence and the actors use them as something to gain popularity out of ( which can be argued is their job but if they learned at least 1% of struggles of queer community I wouldn't be having this argument) I hope I was able to portray the reason of my statement.

I agree to all you said but still have trouble to accept the initial statement ('using queerness as cash cow') as universally true. it might be true for quite a number of Asian BL productions. many certainly suffer from abysmal and absurd scripts, poor acting skills, low production values and all the toxic exploitation going around but do we believe these shows to be actually 'cash cows'? ask youself, why western productions of BL shows are so rare. 'Young Royals' and 'Heartstopper' are outstanding but the exception too. if 'queerness' were indeed a 'cash cow' then western studios probably would produce far more of it. but the risk of financial failure is big and therefore only very convincing and promising projects get greenlightet.

@@embreis2257 of-course it isn't universally true, if it would I might have a very hard time surviving that world. As I said there is good media out there which should be a 100% appreciated and supported but on the flip side of it take Thai bls for an example. They have reduced lgbtq+ representation to merely a trend. Don't you find it suspicious on how the production houses for bls just keep on increasing? Does that scream financial risk? No, it show how successful those producers were in fetishizing queer community. A real life incident, when Thai government debated on the topic of legalizing same sex marriage there were only a handful of bl actors showing their support ( offgun, taynew, maxtul, mew, earth) no production house came forward because that is financial risk. If their audience ( not generalizing) actually witness real support to queer community, they will loose their minds (it has happened before). Also personally I think writers and producers should be completely passionate about their projects before it airs to the audience. And that's why I said that this bl does not feel like they are exploiting queerness for money and actually have a story to tell. Absolutely never made a universal statement just presented my opinion on the very evident exploiting.

If this is the prologue of their story, I’m already in! The first scene, I was drawn because of the color grading, it shows some warmth and I thought it was intimate and it was not even because of two characters sleeping together. I love the premise already and Hayden is such a nice character that made me think about life and how we can improve it. He changed the appearance of a place, not just because it was dirty and disorganized, but because he is not like the place, he didn’t adapt to it, accepted it nor changed himself because of it. He knew he deserved better and wanted to be better, to be in a better place. He didn’t Stay Still 9:25 And I absolutely loved the meet cute. I don’t think many series think about the importance of a first meeting, but it’s important, because we get curious about the next meeting if the first is good. The way they exchanged their greetings 10:47 and one staring there looking at the other as he leaves 11:00 that was perfect! And wow a first kiss already, with a story behind 14:30 but he thinks he’s missing someone else and that hurts already. I have a feeling I will love the angst. I want a series to break me and fix me again and I think this is the one for me 😭

@@Euphoria2381 Is it forbidden to criticize and comment on the first Thai entertainment company? 🙂 I'm a fan of many GMMTV BLs, but I find that for some time, despite the financial power of this company, the latest BLs such as OUR SKY 2 or HIDDEN AGENDA are no longer up to this financial power. : the scenarios are almost non-existent and it feels like we're seeing BLs filmed in 2019 again. OUR SKYY 2 just reverses the roles for 2 series when at HIDDEN AGENDA it looks like a "already seen" BL from the 2019s where we stumble 3 times , already after 2 episodes, to fall into the arms of the one we must fall in love with... Does GMMTV no longer have the means to pay for quality screenwriters or does it fall into the wrong easy money by capitalizing on its notoriety? In 2023, fans are asking for more and that's why the scenarios and stories have evolved in the vast majority towards more real stories. The proof with all these new BL like STAY STILL and many others... If GMMTV, which boosted the quality of the BLs, does not react, I predict a decline for them: just see the comments from international fans who are more than dissatisfied for a part of OUR SKYY 2. I hope GMMTV hears all these negative reviews, to become the leader again for quality off BL series and respecting the fans BLs. Despite this decline in quality, I still remain confident in GMMTV for the future. 🥰😉

C'est le même pb qu'avait My Beautifull Man 2. Du coup j'ai arrêté de le regarder apres l'ep 4. Moi mes goûts sont plus vers The 8 sense, Life Love On The Line, We best Love 1 et 2, Once Again, I Told Sunset About You, chez GMMTV Moonlight Chicken, The Eclipse, Vice Versa... Our Skyy 2 j'ai trouvé qu'ils se foutaient de notre gueule au niveau de certains scénarios comme avec la suite de Never Let Me Go ou de My School President.
