This episode is a masterpiece. I gotta talk about the great acting on Wallace Huo's part, though. You can notice whenever the emperor adressed Ruyi after Ling Yunche's incident, he ALWAYS had a mocking expression with a faint evil smirk. But after the moment Ruyi cuts her hair, he's left there alone with a stupid look on his face. Expressions are key and all these actors and actresses are so good!

I would love to see the trail of bimbos the Empress Dowager would have hanging from the fortress walls! I have always liked Ruyi best, but there are two things I can't forgive her for. 1) not throwing the ruby ring of Consort Ling in the Emperor's face when he questions her fidelity. 2) That every time he mentions Ling Yunche, she down plays him as simply a friend. Ling Yunche remembered the dates of her children, protected her and her loved ones repeatedly, asked her son about school, and remembered her favorite flower. While it might be natural to have a lingering affection for your childhood sweetheart and father of your son, I can't understand in the Emperor's current state, how some degree of romantic affection didn't develop for the guard who cared for you more truly.

Exactly, people call Ruyi dignified and strong, the writers try to sell this "cornered fed up victim card" but for me, Ruyi is just naive beyond redemption. She threw away her son's safety and future for the emperor's image and well being. Ruyi saw and knew the emperor was the type of father who would hate and punish the son for his mother's mistakes. She saw it with Jia, with consort Chun who's sons got treated horribly and disowned because their mothers angered the emperor. She should have let the empress dowager know of the arrangements consort Ling made and wait for her enemy to be bashed and punished by the emperor's mother. She was already demoted, why bother to get involved? Why not let the stronger one clean up the mess of Consort Ling and scold the emperor back to his senses?
