I'm not sure on the meaning of this song but at the end its shown theyre graduating. The flower on their shirts is something students wear in japan when they graduate i think. At the end the girl throws her red flower away maybe signifying she didnt want to grow up but the boy gives her a new flower, a blue one, to wear instead. That blue flower is actually a jade flower. Jade is a gemstone of healing and stability. It relieves anxiety and fear. This may be why the boy suggested they go to the town of jade, its a place to find relief and heal. The jade flower he gave her maybe signifies he wants the best for her and for her to not be scared or anxious. It may also signify a chance to start over again, after having been healed. Not too sure about the gun part though haha. Just sharing what i know/think!

She does mention before about wanting a meteor to come and destroy everything, and how wouldn't that be so wonderful? While on the face of it it can be taken as a "I'm so happy I could die tomorrow and not regret anything" kinda thing, the way she phrased it is kind of odd and I don't think that's a problem with translation, I think it's on purpose. The way she says it it sounds like she just doesn't want to see tomorrow, independent of however happy she is feeling today. Further it gets reinforced by her saying she doesn't want to be an adult and how she doesn't wanna grow up, it feels like she has a bit of trouble being in the moment because of her anxiety about the future. I think the gun is supposed to be him, granting her that wish for a meteor to come and blow everything up, he aims at her like he's about to make it come true, but then rather than a bullet, the flower comes out.... I think the imagery is supposed to evoke a "what you think you want vs. what you actually need" kinda deal. I was gonna apologize about responding a 4 yo comment but really, if you listen to the song again I'm doing you a favor. it slaps.

Omg I just got it. She was standing of the roof looking at the gym while the graduation ceremony was going on. They show one empty chair, the boy left his seat to go find her. However they never show her empty seat. I theorize she's younger than him and he's graduating first. Then the shot where she is sitting alone in the chairs could show how she graduates alone after he's already left.

The memory of the boy keeps showing inside her head which probably explains their date to the town of Jade and explains the line “to heaven I fall but straight to the ground”..that line, for me, means she is often daydreaming about him and their times together and then wakes up in the reality that he's already gone. She also wonders if someone will be able to replace him but then she shakes that thought away because he was irreplaceable for her. Graduation came and the red roses is the symbol that the kids are growing up, including her. The boy's seat is seen to be empty which makes the girl rip the rose from her uniform, which means she doesn't want to grow up since there's nothing to look forward to in life and she just wants to stay in the past when her best friend was still alive. The pixelated faces mean that these people have been long since forgotten to her. By her face becoming pixelated, she's forgetting who she truly is. She cries and goes to the playground then sees the boy's ghost. The line here is: “The two of us here, though it wasn't clear, I think now I understand. We were given a chance to do it all over again.” I think these lines are saying that she wasn't daydreaming at all yet her best friend's ghost was actually spending time with her through her memories and dreams to relive their friendship all over again; their gentle and happy childhood. So when she realized this, he revealed himself and smiled at her. Lastly, the boy aiming a gun on the girl's head means that he's trying to knock some sense into her and explaining that growing up / moving on isn't something we could escape but in fact something we all need. That's why the gun shot out a blue flower, this means that her best friend gave her a new wisdom which she accepted it along with the idea that she needs to face forward in life. In the end, she thanked him one last time for always sticking by her side. The last line “Your hands slipped through mine as they disappeared.” means that even though she cannot see him anymore, he would always be there until the end.

I think this song is about a depressed girl who is afraid to become like everyone else(hence the people with pixellated faces and her face towards the end) Then she meets a boy and ya know they go through the whole shoujo manga shit but then she tells him about her impulses (perhaps jumping off the school roof) and when the boy pulls out the gun (my fav part) and shoots her with flowers it could mean he's killing off her depression with kindness. And her sitting alone could mean the boy left but the girl is happy to have met him. (maybe???¿¿??¿?)

I'm in love with the manga style! Anyone know ilustrate it? Also, this is my opinion, correct me if I'm wrong. So, this girl is a hopeless girl who don't want to be like everybody else (that's why her eyes are not blurry or whatever the thing is) and she don't want to grow up.Then, this boy (her imaginary friend) came to cheer her and go out with her at the park. When she graduates, she realized that she can't run from reality and maybe slowly accept the fact that she need to grow up? The boy left with a goodbye symbolizing the flower. I love the gun and flower part so much! It actually hurts a lot to say goodbye but actually bring goodness and happiness. At the end, she accept it even if it hurts.

the song is about a girl and her friend(who she held very dear, but never told him) who supported her in everything she did and always made an effort to cheer her up and bring her out of her melancholy. the girl is afraid of change and thinks that if the world ends or she dies that things wont change and she'll be able to live out her uneventful routine forever. falling through the ground to heaven is either; a: a metaphor saying she's going to hell?? b: her way of livening up her world by constantly fantasizing about the town of jade -- a sanctuary of sorts that her friend told her about to console her, telling her to go there when she's sad or whatever. her friend never tells her what's going on and she never asks, she's too absorbed in self pity. his emotions build up and eventually commits suicide on by jumping off the school rooftop, and this causes the girl to realize all her mistakes that she made when she was friends with him (never asking him if he's okay, never telling him how much he mattered to her, ect.). the pain from this realization could be compared to that of getting shot, but she knew that the boy wouldn't want her to feel this way. the flower he shot was a forget-me-not, meaning she wouldn't make the same mistakes again, and that she wouldn't try to forget the pain (you see her clenching her sweater at the end because her heart aches.) okay so this is kinda in bits and pieces in some parts but idk

I have a theory!: What if this whole time, the boy was dead. Seeing this girl so sad and not friends with alot of people, he wants to help. He can't do much, and can't let her touch him for fear that she will find out he's already dead. Going with the gemstone, Jade, theory by "zvic2": The boy suggests they go to "The City of Jade", or in other words, "A place of healing". He hangs out with her, and shows her that not all of the world is bad. When she says that she wishes a meteorite would destroy the world, he invites her into "The City of Jade" (or the half-circle with holes), where they go swimming. By "going swimming", they are forgetting bad memories and remembering the happier ones. The pixelated faces mean that these people have been long since forgotten to her. By her face becoming pixelated, she's forgetting who she truly is. The boy, having fallen in love with her, wishes that she could die so that they could be together in the afterlife/purgatory. He points a gun to her head, but instead flowers come out of the gun. Going with same theory by "zvic2": These are jade flowers. This means that the boy has healed from his troubles, and that he wants the girl to heal as well. By realizing this, the girl accepts his love, but it is now too late. The boy's soul is now at rest and he is fading away. The girl, wanting to hold him one time, can't. As his hands phase through hers and fade away. She is now finally happy as well, seeing that the world can be a great place as the boy had thought. For the thing I didn't cover, the chorus: What I think she means by, "Towards Heaven, I fall" is that she thinks she is going to Hell when she dies, or that the boy knows this, and wants to prevent it. "Perpendicular to the ground" means that she's falling into her own grave, or creating it. By the last words "It won't stop, I can't stop. This impulse of mine. But if there were a love that could..." means that she is wanting someone to help her be happy once more, and is looking for love, but not just romantic. She's looking for any type of love. I think I disagree with most people here in that I think the girl can't find meaning or something she loves in her life and wants to die. In the beginning, she thinks "wouldn't it be nice if the world ended" in other words, an outside force that could give her what she wants. Blame cowardliness or anything, she doesn't directly want to do it. I think the boy is a real friend she meets who seems to know what she's going through and stays with her. The references to jade and healing all make sense. I think he finally convinces her to have some sort of hope by making her face what death is like, by pointing a gun and showing her how easily someone could die. Seeing that the result of pulling the trigger is flowers, however, I think that she finally realizes something comforting and how much he has done for her. What makes me think her non stopping thoughts are suicidal thoughts are the references to falling and the images of looking over a balcony in both a scene where we see her back and the scene with the gun. Also, the chairs are the chairs that are set up during a graduation ceremony and if everyone else is there but we see an empty chair, I assume that's what she imagines her chair will look like if she's dead. By the end, she's sitting in a chair, which shows that she has overcome the imagined result of her empty chair. Maybe it's an American thing to chairs in graduation, but it's interesting imagery that I haven't seen a comment about. I'm not exactly sure what happens to the boy, but it's a fact that once time passes, people drift apart. I like to think there was a time skip after this and he's gone off to who knows where, but she still thanks and remembers him, and feels rather content because of the events in the song. I also think they aren't romantically interested in each other either.

collecting what others have said about this song and what they think it means, Here is my interpretation. I think the boy is indeed an imaginary friend or something similar to her mind and thoughts. The boy is constantly trying to make her happy but she doesn't really get any happier. Also including what someone previously said about the city of jade and jade being something that relaxes and helps with anxiety. Towards the end she tears up her red graduation flower as her way of declining progress and growth in herself and the world around her. She is scared of the future and doesn't want to grow up (and possibly lose the boy if he is an imaginary friend). The boy comes in and points a gun at her, The gun part I think is supposed to be the boy acting on her whim, if we still assume that he is from her mind. She tore up the flower after all, she must be at her limit. So the boy pointing the gun at her preparing to give up. When the boy suddenly shoots out new flowers for her to replace the red flower, a part of her could not give up. The boy represents that part and thus he gives her a new flower to convince her to continue. One could debate on whether the blue flower was real or just part of the metaphor, since we don't really see her wear one in the end and we see blue essence escape her hand when she closes it in the end.

I just wanted to put down this idea so have this unedited interpretation: The girl started her summer vacation but she has no friends and nothing to do so she makes up an imaginary friend. She tells everything to him and they find happiness. When school starts, she doesn't want to go to a place she doesnt even recognize or like so she decides to stay with him but deep down she knows or i guess he knows that she has to go to school and learn how to communicate and have fun with real people because imaginary friends are just not that well accepted and will cause problems, so he shoots her with a wake up shot that makes her realize her world, and deletes the guy from the picture. In a way, he shot himself (away from her mind).

Man, what a sad and beautiful song. As for my take on what I think it's about, I think it's about a middle-school girl who feels bored with her life. One day, she meets a boy who brightens her life. A few months pass and they become good friends (Maybe a school-time-crush?). One day, the last day of the school year, the girl hangs around on the roof, sighing about how she doesn't want this time of her life to pass by. The boy meets her on the roof, and tells her he's going to leave, giving her a bouquet of blue flowers in a toy gun. The girl thanks the boy for what effect he had on her life, and the boy thanks her for saying that, and they bid their goodbyes. What happened to the boy is up to interpretation. One could say he killed himself, one could say he moved away, one could say he was a figment of the girl's imagination all along, who knows.

Here is a theory: so it at one point has the girl wish that the earth would end by something like an astroid and then she says there is nothing good coming from growing up and at the end the boy has a gun in his hand pointing at the girl with it and shoots it and it always says "to heaven i fall" like she is dead or is dying so because the boy is gone (most likely to the city of jade OR something else which i will explain) she develped depression and with depression suicidal thoughts OR The city of jade could be heaven because jade is often refered to the stone of heaven and thus the city of jade is just a nickname for heaven meaning if the boy went to the city of jade he had died and she wanted to join him in the city of jade and she also says "it wont stop, i cant stop this impulse of mine" probably the impulse being the thoughts and by "if there were a love that could" it would be like someone she could talk to "we are in this city surely being given the chance to start over once again" again, referencing the city of jade thank you for coming to my ted talk

My theory is that the girl is depressed and suicidal. Hence her wanting the world to end, saying she’ll die of boredom(jokingly, but still talking about death) and falling horizontally to the ground (into a grave, as I’ve seen someone else point out). The pixelation being things that are “dead” to her or devoid of meaning. The boy tried to help her, and keeps her from killing herself, until the end when she’s on the roof, pixelating and is probably about to jump. It’s her graduation and she doesn’t want to grow up, she doesn’t see any meaning. He points a gun at her (toy?) to shock her to her senses but it’s blank (the flowers are metaphorical) and he bids goodbye and jumps off instead. She, still depressed, decides to go on living for him. People are saying he could have been a figment of her imagination or a ghost, but I feel like he was just from another school, maybe hence knowing the city of jade, or maybe a different city but calling it the city of jade to play pretend and make the world more magical for her. She doesn’t seem “healed” at the end, just deciding to continue to live, probably in memory of her friend. anyway that’s what I got from it thx

With this PV you'd think this song would be easy to understand. But it's not. And from what I can gather its about a girl who's constantly bored and because of that, she becomes depressed and apathetic. Because of that, she makes an imaginary friend, the boy. But she realizes she needs to grow out of imaginary friends and the boy does too.

My theory was this: a little girl thinks the world is hopeless and just wants it to end. then, she meets a boy who let's her pour out her heart and gives her hope and happiness, but then, the boy dies witch is why flowers are given to her in the form of a gun to show how hard the news hit her. it's not a perfect theory but that's all I got.

I think this is about a girl that is dating a boy, and one day he takes her to "the city of jade" as their place to date. After the date, they go to a park and the girl says that the world should end. Then the boy says that it doesn't have to be like that. Then, he tells her that he has to leave. Then she doesn't want to grow up just to be with him. He points a gun to her forehead, representing that him leaving is painful. He pulls the trigger on the toy gun to give her a flower to remember him by. She thanks him for always being there for her, and accepts the flower. She then cries over the fact that she has to grow up without him by her side

I think this girl was lonely and depressed with her life or "bored" as she says it. Then she makes this figment of her imagination, or the boy and hangs out with him for awhile and sees life can be happy thing. After awhile, he says he has to go and leave and I believe he says this because he completed his mission of making the girl see how great life can be. I have a theory :3 Maybe it was the last day of school. The girl was going to be college. The line "I'm gonna die of boredom" She was really bored. She gave up. She skipped class then fell asleep. Met a boy and they go to the city of jade. They both fall in love with each other. But the girl has to wake up. At first, the boy wanted her to be with him but, she has to grow up. The line, "I wish the world would just end." means she wishes she could be with the boy... But the boy, sadly, shoots her so she could wake up from her dream to grow up... She ends up growing up.
