Do you skip the engine bay....or include the area in your detailing regiment?

I do the engine bay as part of a full detail, I also offer it as an "ala carte" option. Have you tried Koch Chemie's Motorplast? It is great for finishing engine bays

Tip I learned from Mike Phillips: Spray the engine bay with protectant. Close hood. Turn the car on. Wait a few minutes. Open it up & it’s all leveled.

@ronayotte3571 How much do you chg. for your full detail vs. Just wash & spray wax? Does that also incl. a one step polish? And engine alacart I'm thinking an additional $50?

Always do the engine bay. Usually use a leaf blower instead of the compressed air though

I’m confused about why you made it a point to say the foam has very little moisture in it, so not to introduce a lot of water to the engine bay, but then you hose it all off with a pressure washer. Did I miss something? Thx

I've always heard that the underhood insulation should not be cleaned with too much liquid, I assume the foamer does not get it very wet. Great video though..

It’s great that your cleaning the plastic covers on a 2020 or newer vehicle but could you show us in a new vid how you would clean an actual engine compartment without the plastic covers on?
@ItsMeYourRealDad
@ItsMeYourRealDad Жыл бұрын
Good point, it's easy when you're detailing a new car but the exposed engine components on slightly older cars do pose a problem. I'd rather not do the engine at all than break a sensor or something like that by getting water into it

Hey Bri, I took your advise on using megashine on an engine bay. However for rinsing off the cleaner, I use a Scotts pump sprayer. The kind you use for weed killer. Of course I've only used it with water for this purpose. Also great to rinse down door jams and the dog legs on the rear doors. Btw, wife uses my sprayer to water her plants. hahahaha

I had always heard that you shouldn't wash your engine because of the possibility of getting your electronics too wet. However, the owners manual for my current car (2012 For Edge) actually recommends it at least twice a year. So I've started doing it in the fall and spring.
@DerPic
@DerPic Жыл бұрын
Old cars you have to more careful of. Newer cars, including yours, you def can. Pressure washer or pump sprayer as they both use less water than a hose would be the smarter option. I do mine once a year in the spring because of the salt. My engine bay is a lot more intricate than what was in the video.

Brian what do you do with the engine bay of an older classic? Aluminum valve covers, chrome air filter top, painted black inner fenders, gloss black firewall with coil and crane hi-6 etc etc. You know a hot rodded older car. Been busy with life the last 10 years and boy has my old camaro engine bay gotten a little funky sitting in my garage.

We do clean and rinse the engine bay, but while it's still wet, we spray Koch Chemie Motorplast on it and close the hood after we finish the detail (1-3 days) we pop the hood up and check if any area needs to be leveled up which most of the time it doesn't

My late cousin gave me his father's 2000 Camry LE 4 cylinder. Unfortunately the valve cover gasket was leaking. I bought a new valve cover gasket the half moon seals didn't come the kit. I had buy them individually. But they all metal. They were not like the original ones that came with the Camry. The valve cover gasket still leaks. Also the oil pan gasket leaks too. I have a new one. Oil destroys things I dare not put water on the engine and wiring. So I clean the engine with a product that is from Chemical Guys. It works I don't have to use water. It's okay at working. I just can't go using water on a engine this old. Any suggestions?
