While cleaning and detailing your engine bay is great to make it look good it should also be noted that you should spend proper time to thoroughly dry it and then use some anti-rust treatment in relevant areas. This is especially necessary on the sides where the fenders and wheel houses are. There are many overlapping metal parts, folds, and crevices where water and humidity gets in and if untreated your car will start rusting faster than you can say "Koch Chemie" 😅. If you live in constantly dry and sunny areas it's not a big issue, but in many parts of the world it's better to have a comparatively dirty car with good anti-rust treatment than a clean car that will be a write-off after 10-15 years because major parts have so much rust that it's not viable to repair it anymore.

6:02 After I clean my engine on my 2020 Toyota Camry and let it dry . I liberally spray 303 Protectant , all over the engine compartment and let it soak in . Never any streaking / staining issues , etc. I do this about twice a year to help rubber and plastic components resist cracking and fading . Then about a month later I will clean the engine again , as the 303 Protectant attracts surface dirt . Best time I think is during hot spring and summer . That allows the 303 Protectant to be really absorbed the best . My air intake is open , so I stuff a microfiber towel in it to prevent water from getting inside

That alkaline stuff is caustic and a good electrical conductor. So probably more precautions would be needed for older cars. Also the brake fluid is hydroscopic and its reservoir cap usually have a little hole that one might not want to wash with pressure.

Thanks Pan! It was great to meet you at SEMA. I always look forward to drinking coffee and watching your videos on a Saturday morning. I have over 20 years of auto repair experience. And agree that most things built after 2005 should handle these steps pretty well. Never use a garden hose, avoid high pressure contact from both washer and compressed air. You don’t want to force water past the weather pack seals. And of course, use common sense and look the engine over first. I would also watch out for labels fixed to plastic parts. They come off easily with water and dirt if not being careful. Same with powerful degreasers on painted engine covers.

@PanTheOrganizer2 жыл бұрын
You do as you wish. I have pretty much always used a pressure washer and never once had any issue or feedback afterwards that something went wrong. Again, common sense. Also, a pressure washer uses less water compared to a garden hose. So although it seems like you're using a lot of water, you're actually using way less compared to a regular garden hose setup.
@CageyLeigh2 жыл бұрын
@@PanTheOrganizer LOL. Ivan is using a $20 garden hose that uses more water, while you’re using a $1500 pressure washer that uses less water. Ivan has saved himself a lot of money by using a little bit more water. Go Ivan.

Actually it’s quite safe to use the pressure washer if you are using common sense, staying below 2000 psi, and always keep the sprayer moving as Pan says. Dealers use it and professional detailers have been using pressure washers for a long time now.
@k1sfd19742 жыл бұрын
If water getting into the engine bay was an issue, we’d have issues every time it rains or we run through standing water. The only issue I can see is if you get too close with a pressure washer. If you use a fan spray and stay at a sufficient distance, you’ll use much less water with a pressure washer than a garden hose. However; like Pan said: you do you. Edited for spelling

Pam, just a comment, for older cars with more exposed metal, how do you keep the chrome/iron parts shiny after degreaser, protected? This clip and your chosen products works well for a modern car with a lot more pastics/rubber hoses. What would you use to shine and protect the main engine hub?

What abou a 20 yr old trailblazer engine bay that has never been washed?? How can I know what to cover and what not, I really want to clean it but afraid I'm going to mess it up 😟
@PanTheOrganizer10 ай бұрын
You just have to be more careful, and perhaps use a garden hose in that situation, instead of a pressure washer. Cover any exposed electronics like the main computer, or alternator, or fuse box. Don't focus the stream of water on the same spot for many seconds. Keep the wand moving and sweeping across the engine bay. Or, you could avoid using water altogether, by just purchasing a waterless wash type product. Spray that liberally all around the engine bay, and use detailing brushes to agitate, and then mop up and wipe with old microfiber towels. And that should still get you a very good result. Here's a quality waterless wash that will work super well: bit.ly/4bFYfRD Or this alternative from Amazon: amzn.to/4bLFL24 Welcome to my channel. Excellent work Pan! I like using Super Clean for the initial pre spray and a mixture of any APC and high foaming neutral car soap in my foam cannon or IK foam sprayer and apply a heavy rich foam to do it's work. I usually hit everything with my steamer and agitate with brushes and a final rinse. My go to protection is 1:1 dilution ratio of Chemical guys VRP. I will definitely consider your process by eliminating the steam to see if I can get the optimum results.

For people saying it's not safe. Pan said he has done hundreds of engines details and I've done probably 1000's over 26 years, yes it is safe as long as you take precautions. The only issue one of my detailer had was because a mechanic forgot to put the fuse box cover back on properly. Besides that,use common sense and don't blast the engine super close,stay 2-3 feet away and keep moving the water media.
