Engine BMW R60/5 - Part 9

In this video you can see the problems that we have with these two Bing carburetors. The main problem was the because of the bad storage of the bike tha water from rain has entered in the carbs and coroded allot of parts. However, I am doing all the efforts in order to recover this two carbs which are expensive to buy. I am confident that I will recover this two carbs because they are very simple, the channels are not clogged anymore after cleaning and we can still buy new original parts for them.

I cannot get the red phenolytic ring out to put in a carb that works. Going to maybe wrap gasket sheet to fill gap. My bings have float overflow brass tubes in float bowl I think yours rotted out.

Hello, I was wondering if you have some tips on identifying an bmw R series engine. I piked up a “R60/5” but the tank, carburetors look like the one from an R75/5... Any suggestions I would appreciate!

Hi, you can try identify with www.realoem.com catalogue. This guy is butchering an R50/5 carburettor . I know I have an R50/5 The R 60/5 and R75/5 are of the vacuum type.

@@stufon111 Nope, R60/5 standard came with non vacuum carbs. Only the 750 series did.

Hi Luca I have a 1974 BMW r60/6 that has a problem that nobody can solve. When I start the engine, the rev counter marks 1200rpm and after some time it starts to accelerate by itself until it reaches close to 3000rpm. This happens after 6 to 8 minutes. I wonder why? Thanks

Hi Fernando! It is a carburetor problem and I have met this usualy on worn out carburetors, especialy at the bore or the piston carburetor, or both. However you must first check the throttle cables to move easy and freely, check if you have air leaks.
