Having that hatch up front would be great for mounting the ignition. I know that wasn't the originally planned engine. When I watched that episode I was thinking I would have changed the plan a little to make mounting spot for ignition above the fuel tank. Great build thanks for sharing

Hehe I love how you cat is sitting there with his head just above the table, and wacking at your parts of the table! Also some nice info! It sure is cool how the newer engine are so much more compact and lighter then the converted weed eater engines! I have a 63 cc weed eater engine which I’m converting from magneto too. SOLID State CDI. Also have too machine an adapter for the propeller too mount too the shaft.

I really like these dle engines. They seem to be really reliable and in this case a little less weight that won’t need to be countered out with tail weight.

Hey Dan, enjoy your videos. Currently running a US 41 on a Balsa USA 1/4 scale Fokker D-VII and a US 41 on a TopFlite P-51. Very enjoyable engines. Also on the bench is 1/3 scale Fokker D-VIII if I ever get done. Keep up the good work

This video came at the perfect time Dan, I just picked up a 33% Pitts S2 and have to fit my 40CC Twin VVRC classic into it. The dowel tip is great ! Thank you so much for a very informative video sir.

I have always loved the Pitts bipes!!! They look so cool. Seen several full scales up close at the Reno Air Races and they are not much bigger than the models we are building!!!! Have fun, thanks for watching.

Great job so far, but going from one two strake to another in a scale plane I think it would have been much better to go four stroke.👍👍👍👍

I use o-rings on the stand offs to reduce the engine vibration. Not sure if it helps, but I feel better.

3 times... sorry shouldn't comment when I use my cell. Subscribed starting myself first channel that gives thoughts about how is should look and fly when it's finished. Its hard to find what we in Germany still Modellbau call instead of ready to fly vey nice. 🙂

I did apply a quick coat of rattle can varnish inside the front and main compartments before sending the plane off to Mark for covering. I don't paint on a thick coat as there should never be a major fuel spill in there and a thick coat of anything adds weight. Especially epoxy.

How do you account for the P factor with that set up?
@Capgains7777
@Capgains7777 3 жыл бұрын
P factor if its what I remember is the result of torque from the counter clockwise spinning prop forcing the aircraft to yaw to the left. Some designs will slant the firewall a few degrees so the engine faces slightly to the right as a way to trim the aircraft's path to nullify the force from the torque. Personally, I like the 0 degree straight firewall. The high percentage of aircraft I have built have been tail draggers, and as a result, to drive a taildragger, you have got to become a great rudder driver. From the moment you throttle up for takeoff you have got to be on that rudder input to drive the plane down the runway center line. As for flying, most likley the plane may need to be trimmed with a few clicks of rudder, maybe. I remember the slanted firewalls in only a few designs I have built... Both were designed for high rpm glow engines... I haven't seen any in larger scales designs that are designed for gasoline engines. Not sure why. I don't believe I have ever seen a full scale aircraft using a slanted firewall either. I fall short of saying the use of a slanted firewall or off setting the engine mount is a gimmick to cant the plane right, the same way we add down thrust to make the plane fly level... But the only time I the P factor seems to be an issue is the short window of time as the plane goes from 0 to rotation speed on the runway and the best answer for fighting that force, is the rudder as it is the first surface that becomes influencial as the speed increases.

Hey Dan, a flush cut saw does a nice job on those dowel rods. www.amazon.com/SUIZAN-Japanese-Flush-Hardwood-Softwood/dp/B07T9K59D1?ref_=ast_sto_dp Also, the mounting pattern for the DLE-30 is on the last page of the manual. No need to guess. Keep em coming.

The manual that came in the box is a 4 page 4 language very simple instruction manual... There is no template. Is there a downloadable version? Sheesh. Oh well. I guess thats why I have my lines huh? Hope this thing runs well.
