my van sounded like that and it was an injector blowing i cleaned the injector and replaced a washer on the bottom of the injector it cost a fiver to fix

@@SocksWithSandals have a look at the injectors and see if you can see or feel it blowing you should be able to smell it or feel the pressure blowing and if so its a small copper washer under the injector i got four washers for a fiver i hope this helps

I really hope this can be saved! Personally I would get all that oil out, and also get those camshaft bearing caps removed and refitted with the correct torque before running it anymore.

Yesterday it sounded like a small end bearing but seeing all that black smoke on the pavement im going for a possible injector failure which is a less amount of money to pay out. Hopefully its the injector fingers crossed as I've just found your channel and love to see more adventures from you.👍

Any update Tim ? Hopefully it's just a faulty injector. From a youtube vid on injector issues -> "Today's tech tip is to really put in the diagnostic effort on a diesel exhibiting a rod knock type sound. Did you know a stuck open injector can cause this type of noise due to over fueling. A normal gas engine will just misfire. A diesel being over fueled will exhibit a bottom end knock type sound and likely cause rail pressure codes."

I would say it's just not running on all cylinders that's all. Why though is a different story, probably an injector fault/ blockage. You'd be surprised the row that makes. Great content again hope you get it sorted. (Possibly smoking with the excess oil might need to drain some off)

Sounds like a leaky injector causing overfuelling, run engine and slacken off one injector at a time to locate noisy cylinder. Plus that engine oil looks horrible. If it were mine I would change all the injectors, renew the engine oil and filter and jet wash the engine bay.

To suffer the big power reduction you had and a mechanical clacking varying at speed a bent valve hence loss of compression/power a likely culprit. Loose injectors blow not clack and stuck open ones make no noise but risk hydro lock. A small end bearing going can give just enough play for piston to touch valve. Sound is like when pushrod ball ends grind to a point in rocker cup on old v8 rovers.

Try this mate at injectors lossen where fuel pipe connects with engine running diesel will siss out but listen to engine noise if it picks up that injector is gone 👍, I reckon injector mate 👍

It's old engine design but them engines are really tuff as old boots and they are loud anyway but realable and easy enough to fix at roadside aswell

No 4 injector put your hand around the connection to the head if you feel air coming out there's ur problem it maybe the bolt stripped which may need a helicoil..
