Thorough and well paced, this is the best Himalayan oil change "how to" on YT. At first I wondered about you not changing the o-rings, gasket, and crush washer then you mentioned how availability is an issue. Going over how to evaluate and maintain them when you can't replace them is an important point that is usually not covered. Lastly, covering the amount of oil consumption is immensely helpful and, again, not usually covered. Thanks so much for this excellent tutorial.

Hello Ben just came across your channel I've had several bike's through out my life but have been away from riding for around 10 years I've been looking into the history of Royal Enfield and the very possessive reviews in India and here in the US on the Himalayan and have decided that it's the next new bike for me it hit's all the requirements I'm looking for and has a wonderful look to boot, I didn't think there was someone out there that was as meticulous as I am when it come's performing maintenance on motorcycles and/or vehicles but you proved me wrong Great video and I just subscribed :) The new 2021 Himalayan's are trickling into the dealers here in the Us and am heading down in the next couple days to put my deposit down to secure one before there gone again, looking forward to future videos be safe and take care

I'm interested in the new Scram 411 (which I'm guessing has an identical oil change procedure) and I stumbled across this video... Can I just compliment you on this excellent production? Thank you for the kind words Nick . Glad that you noticed the details . And yes the oil change procedure is identical on both , in fact the engines have no mechanical components changed in the new scram.

A trick to consider on your o-rings... on older automatic transmissions on cars, I have heard to put a little bit of brake fluid into the transmission fluid. As it circulates, it will get on to all the o-rings. The rubber in the o-rings will absorb it and swell slightly and reseal whatever they are meant to seal. It does not take much, a couple of capfuls into your fluid reservoir, and it will eventually dilute into the transmission fluid. For the purposes of this video, just take a couple of drops on your finger and wet the o-ring seals while you are draining the oil from the engine. Also, while you are running the engine to warm the oil prior to changing it, that is a good time to clean and lube your chain.

Good job Ben. Here in the states quite a few of us run a full synthetic oil as we normally run a bit higher RPMs. There is also an additional drain plug near the front of the engine. Not everyone uses it as it’s placement is a pain in the a$$ to place a drain spout such as your cardboard. Again, a very good job Ben.
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN4 жыл бұрын
Hi Joe. yes that's because of the kind of roads you have there. our national highways have more traffic than your city roads . Its an adventure every single day here . also the third drain bolt lets out about 50 -100 mls which can be collected from the main drain bolt if you lift the front up ( bike resting on you side stand) . i do that regularly . didn't want to show that on video as enthusiastic novices ( too many out there ) here will find themselves in trouble if they get it wrong.

yes together they account for faster acceleration, better throttle response and higher cruising speeds. and if you get the tuning right ( depending on how invested you are in the process) you are looking at an additional power gains of 3-5 bhp.

Bhai, alternatively you can also remove spark plug and crank the engine 3-4 seconds by pressing power button for 3-4 times. Don't over do it ... Surely some 50ml oil will come out .
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN4 жыл бұрын
sorry to disagree dear Shishupal , but one should never remove the spark plug and crank without first CLEANING THE ENTIRE AREA THOROUGHLY. The inward suction of air will pull in all the dirt in the plug well into the combustion chamber . this is not a recommended practice (especially in an offload used machine) .
@0xsergy4 жыл бұрын
Not worth doing bearing damage for 50ml. Just put fresh fluid, you'll never drain everything anyway. At most tip it on center stand as far as you can hold it.

For a good carbon free engine shift upwards of 3 k rpm. The engine is happiest @ a steady 4500-5500 RPMs .

drain oil till the last drop by opening the inspection window (wire mesh screen). Tilt the bike both sides to get everything out . Then fill till 3/4th of the sight window.

I think it is worth mentioning that the gloves are not just there to keep your hands clean and pretty. Used engine oil is quite unpleasant, toxic and carcinogenic and it makes sense to have as little contact with it as possible.

Hello Ben.. thank u for your super informative videos.. I really would like to know wether using a Synthetic oil in Himalayan(bs4) would have any serious threat to the engine.. I am asking this as I switched to liqui molly 10W50 and the performance of my bike worsened.. I drained it at around 3000km (liqui molly recommends 10000km) but my bike could not handle it.. So I shifted to motul 300v (15w 50 which is recommended) but after a first few 100 km the story is the same.. bike is so loud now.. and gear shifts becoming harder by the day!! Should I stick to semi Synthetic?
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN3 жыл бұрын
Hi friend. glad that my videos are helping a lot of fellow bikers. coming to your question. SINGLE CYLINDER TWO VALVE Engines which run synthetic oils tend to be a little more noisy when the engine runs hot. so its a common practice to avoid using the same . but other than oil leaking out of mating surfaces (weak gaskets) there is no other harm to the engine . on the contrary , performance is enhanced at higher rpms with fully synthetic oils . Also yes, synthetic oils cause clutch slippage in weak clutch plates . semi synthetic is recommended by the factory for a reason because it can take on a wide variety of terrains, riding styles and weather conditions . if you choose to go with synthetic use it only if you decide to ride hard with quick gear shifts .

Any idea how to reduce the engine temperature Climbing 40 degree for just 5km riding
@ONTWOWHEELSBEN4 жыл бұрын
It’s not your engine temp . It’s the ambient air temp . The sensor is under your seat . Also the gauge showing 40degrees depends on a LOT of factors . In short don’t worry about it until it hits 55 on the gauge .

@@MyFrankHut yes . it can be moved to a lot of different locations on the bike where the engine heat will not get to it.
