Rebuild of Bmw Engine N62B48, V8 4,8l with 367hp!
Personally I LOVE THAT ENGINE! The only annoying thing about it is that valve stem seals get worn out sooner then should be, and causing high consumption of oil and could smoke a lot, generally that is the last naturally aspirated engine of BMW!
The complete BMW engine N62B48 overhaul is recorded in 3 video parts!
Here in this part 1, we will see how to install Bmw Engine N62B48 crankshaft , main bearings , Piston group (consist of piston, piston pin and connecting rod and connecting rod bearings) , how to install piston rings and how to use piston ring compression tool in order to install the pistons in cylinder block.
The video is made step by step full repair in in order to explain all key moments during BMW engine N62B48 rebuild / overhaul. For your pleasure this BMW engine N62B48 overhaul video is made in Ultra HD 4k quality .

You made a mistake when tightening the main bearings. At 34nm, you should have tightened the limiting bushings and not the four screws

What was the method used to ready the bores for the new rings? This takes a special procedure known as soft stripping which should be done by a pro machine shop because the block is Alusil
@SuperFastDriver

there is a still chance of installation a nornal liner .. but nobody gives you warranty.. how long it will last .. I just bought a good cylinder block and rebuild the engine.. the block was less than 1500$ not so expensive..

Never place pistons on the edge of the table like that. Very easy to accidentally drop one and damage it. Furthermore a paint brush is a bad idea for lubrication as hairs often come off them. Last thing you want between crankshaft and bearings is debris. Use brake cleaner to clean the journals just before installation one by one and clean gloves to lubricate with your finger. Change gloves before each surface to be lubricated. In addition installing new rings without having the cylinders honed is a serious mistake as they are intended to mutually wear during break in phase for proper compression. You can clearly see this has not been done. Furthermore a worn and polished smooth cylinder wall cannot retain an oil film, leading to poor compression and excessive wear. You can read TIS all day long but if you do not understand basics you make mistakes like these. Did not bother watching beyond spring compressor tool but do not take this video as gospel.
@SuperFastDriver
@SuperFastDriver 3 жыл бұрын
Dear friend, thanks that you spend some time to watch my video and comment on it! Appreciate that! I really don’t think that spraying with brake cleaner should be recorded, that is more than 10 hours of total work, I managed to short it out to 20 min video, I agree that all parts has to be cleaned really well I used more than 15 cans of brake cleaner and special industrial degreaser as well, but I don’t think that is important to the video it is just common sense to keep everything nice and clean, about the gloves I spent more than 100 pairs.. total in all 4 video parts!

Regarding the honing, that is N62 Engine and cylinders are made from Alusil special material that can not be honed! You will destroy that silicone surface if you do honing..
@jackdoe3889
@jackdoe3889 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperFastDriver I think you are confusing honing with boring. You need to give it a light cross-pattern roughness which can be easily be done using a drill and a 3 stone honing device. This will not remove any coating or increase bore, unless you spend 20min per cylinder. I know you mean well and appreciate that but understand that some will copy what you do.
@jackdoe3889
@jackdoe3889 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperFastDriver It is important. You use the same paint brush and even swipe the table with it and continue applying oil to the bearings with it. Common sense does not seem to apply there. The moment you apply oil it becomes a magnet for dust and dirt so you do so at the very last moment. Not when the conrods/pistons are on the table but just before you insert the piston and the lower half when the conrod is already in place. If you think this is overkill then you simply have not built all that many engines. Don't take my word for it. Ask someone who has built them for decades, like I have.
@jackdoe3889
@jackdoe3889 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperFastDriver TIS does not teach you how to be a mechanic. It gives specific instructions and information to trained professionals. When you work with enough many engines you will make mistakes. Human nature. You drop a piston and crack the skirt. You learn to place them in a way to minimize risk of that happening again. It's called experience and I could already see in 10min you have none. Again, I know you mean well and don't want to sound harsh but the world is full of people who lost a lot of money because they were following a KZbin video thinking that person knew what he was doing. If I watch the rest of these videos I am sure I would spot a lot of other mistakes but frankly I cannot be bothered. Just understand the impact your videos may have and do your homework first.
