NOTES FROM SLIM: Yes, the repair receipt didn't add up. Turns out when I read it on camera, the top of the page was folded over. I missed "ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING: $137". Another note: The plugs were pre-gapped for my specific make and model so I did not need to adjust them. Thanks!

Hi Slim. I would be reluctant to do any major engine repair while at a campsite. My fear would be that I would do something wrong or break something that needed a garage with a professional mechanic to repair. Here's what happened to me when I had an "engine Misfire" code issue on my 2007 Ford Ranger. At around 170,000 miles it developed a slight miss on one of the cylinders. Like you, I replaced all of the spark plugs and all of the ignition wires. I fought the problem for about a year. I finally gave up throwing parts at the problem and took it to the Ford Dealership. I was informed that the valve seats in the head had sunken in over time. It was a common problem in that year's 3.0 engine. The only fix was to have the heads removed and new seats installed to the tune of $2,000.00. Now for the funny part. I had the repair work scheduled for a particular Monday. But on the Saturday before, two unlicensed teenagers stole my truck and totaled it while trying to outrun a Highway Patrol officer. The good news is that my insurance paid for a much newer truck for me. The new truck has all the features I wanted but didn't have in the old truck. Those kids actually did me a favor.

As someone who has done many roadside/campsite repairs while traveling the country in my Ford E150... the greatest advice I give to anyone and everyone is to buy a cheap Bluetooth OBDII reader! I had to take the drive line out and take it to a shop in Mesquite, NV where I found a driveline shop it cost me $150.00 to replace the carrier bearing and then I put it back in myself. I was 67 in 2019 but got it done. I was towing my 1994 Chevy Silverado 4x4 with a manual transaxle. I put the truck in neutral and the trans axle in neutral and was able to tow it without any transmission damage. Towed to Oklahoma and Arizona and up to Washington State with no issues. SLIM. I put one of these gadgets on my sister's car, you can install it yourself. Called an OBD1 or OBD2 auto code reader. Some of the better versions, use Bluetooth and send reports directly to your phone. More importantly. YOU can see the entire computer diagnostic from the onboard computer and actually see, why you are getting an error. My sister had an error on her car, some auto shop wanted to charge her $800 for repairs and that little gadget we figured out she just needed a new radiator hose and some new fluid. $200. A huge savings. Might want to look into it.

1996 was when OBD II was mandatory on all vehicles. I had a 1995 with OBD I, and it was not very helpful at all. I had to turn the key on and off 3 times, then count the codes as the check engine light flashed on and off. Then, I look up the code and it would tell me something very general like "misfire". I have OBD II on my 1998 Dodge van I have been on the road with full time for a year, and I have one of the OBD II readers you suggest, and it is great. I can actually get very specific codes that greatly aid in my diagnostics. I have a cheap $30 one but, it reads the codes and, I can erase them after my repair to make sure it does not come back. I hope Slim follows your suggestion, he needs one.

Hey slim! Kudos to you for doing that repair out like that. I’ve been in some road trips that required roadside repairs like that. I had a trailer tire blow up. We had no cell reception and the tire iron didn’t fit over the lug nuts. So after an hour of searching we shoved some paper into the lug wrench to take up space and allow the wrench to work. We got the spare on. I said to my friend we should stop at that tire shop and get a new spare tire. The one looks old. Let me just say the story repeats and got another flat but this time we had to leave the trailer on the side of the road and drive back to that tire shop. And don’t get me started with the U-Haul trailer, customer support, and having to remove the u joint on a ford ranger it was towing while laying in the street on a sidewalk in Utah. Safe travels!

Yup. I did this due to error codes on my Ford Transit RV related to the PCV. I ordered the parts and replaced them myself saving a lot of money. Essentially it is a poorly engineered design that allows atomized oil to mess up the PCV.

Not sure how expensive, but - just from viewing Scotty Kilmer videos - maybe an OBD2 Scanner with the option to delete error codes might be worth considering - clearing the errors may sometimes be necessary to avoid the dashboard error lights returning after the problem has been fixed.

On that door weather strip that's apparent. By the glass, you can there's a way to take it off and rebend it to where it clips back on butter and then you wouldn't have to worry about it, rattling and a piece of cardboard in it all the time. Once you get it all squeeze it with a pair of butterflies. I don't even think you have to take it off. Just find you a flat what they call a flat plier and squeeze it down the side and it will fix that molding.
@rogerkrysalka25299 ай бұрын
There are a couple things I’ll say, as a technician at a local dealership, in my area. I have learned that the brand of spark plugs you use really matters like champion is good, so do your research on that, also be sure that the spark plugs are properly gapped if they weren’t already in spec for your vehicle out of the box. Improper gap can affect the fuel air mixture and may impact your gas mileage as well and may not burn properly. All in all, I think you did fantastic working with what you had on hand and limited experience, Slim! Love your videos as always, Slim!
