The bolt holds the input sprocket on, or keeps the key from coming out. You want one to one gearing from engine to trans. The output sprocket is #50 chain. The axle will need a 28 tooth sprocket, will run about 40 mph with 20'' to 22'' tires. I'm glad you like cant wait to see you do something with it. Oh the hole on the top is a vent, just put a rubber tube on and drape it over the back.

I’m surprised no ones made these or even a bolt on transmission for these small engines with how big the community is iv seen a lot of videos of people building them and getting pretty good results but I don’t have the knowledge or equipment to build one but would be cool to see one on the market something like this for bikes connecting by chain with 2 or 3 speeds and maybe a bolt on one for go-karts/atv’s with 2 or 3 speeds and reverse just have it bolt right on to the engine with the 4 bolt holes and connect it similar to how a car does I understand it may not perform %100 perfect but if it works it works lol would love to have a low and high gear on my mini bike low for off roading and high for paved roads

I do something similar with car transmissions .i remove the bell housing and change the output shaft it works great .i have a few Kawasaki 300 engines with reverse and high and low range i have changed as well it works much better than lawnmower tyranny witch have to short of gearing .i like the taller gearing of car and ATV tyranny .looks like he did a proper job good work!

If this gets around the people who are presently mfg and selling repopped M/C gears in a pot metal box, will have to drop their prices just ot stay in biz! I saw the Piece Statton did on the trans build a while back and wondered where it went- now I know! T-man- stacking sounds good, but will raise the center of gravity some, maybe more than you want. As you face the engine output shaft and the trans input, rotate the engine 20 degrees or so anti clockwise, and rotate the trans about the same clockwise. Now push them closer together; much smaller footprint , the cylinder and head are further up into the air stream. It will still be a bit longer than you may want; a shifter cart style frame, engine beside the driver, would shorten up the lash up much! Also put the motor/trans on your left, so the chain and drive are away from you- you need to put a chain guard on it either way, but it will be much more "emotionally" satisfying if you not always looking at the spinning chainsaw next to you like a poisonous snake!

oh. . .when he sayed 200cc conversion i thought he ment predator engine made into a gear box, that would have been cool, but what he did was just took the "power unit" from a dirtbike and took the engine part out and made a shaft that replaces the crank and it has a gear that just drives the sequential transmission that was already inside, still very cool and inventive, no doubt its useful but it not too super hard to do if you got the tools, i thought of this one time, like if my dirtbike ever blew up i could still use the engine for something, like a gearbox for a gokart with like a predator engine right infront of it running a 1-1 chain to the box

Cutting out or removing the crankshaft, rods, pistons & cylinders section, for the transmission...Only, I'm doing that to replace those parts, with electric motors, so I can have an electric motorcycle, with a multispeed transmission. I'm looking for a durable, dramatic gear-ratio, separate gearbox, like for motorcycle drag-racing, because that should be able to handle the torque, and those widely spaced gears, will be the best for the motors.

Interesting T-man, I literally just designed the same concept using a lifan 125 engine for the Montana State University Baja SAE team. I am wondering if you can offer any advise on getting a centrifugal clutch that allows bigger sprockets than standard to be installed on the bell housing? Looking for a 20 tooth or thereabouts to reduce stresses on our transmission input shaft.

I know exactly what your saying, but I dont know where to find something like that. I do remember seeing one of those high dollar racing clutches have an 18 tooth sprocket on it but it was for a 35 chain. ... just did a search " Titan " ... but you might need to have that insert sprocket specially milled.

I would mount the motor on top, keeps the whole package shorter horizontally, plus there is less chain and easier access all around motor and gearbox.

Wow, that's a nice lil bonus! Here is a Cool Project for you especially since it is colder. Have you seen Casey Neistat's Workshop?? You should set up your tools and such like that but with your own plans. Maybe just some plywood up on the walls and some make shift shelves and hooks. But if you get your tools up on the wall, you'll have have so much more space. Probably be a lot of work, but imagine how much more organized you will stay. You might need more room for more tools!

William could you not just use that crank by removing the rod and addressing the input shaft.that's what i did it was easier i reinforced the crank center as well works great with a 20hp Kolher engine . Plus i made use of the three hundreds auto trans.Works great. I also use clutch and trans from snowmobiles they work great as well .

You would get smoother power and more torque with a clutch and a torque converter like a Harley. Clutch side on the engine and jack shaft pully on the gearbox. Maybe hook it up to a vanguard vtwin or 670 preditor. That would be nasty

Hey I have a couple of questions. my harbor freight engine 8hp 301cc is un- governed and it runs to about 4100k rpm max. I am looking into upgrading to a 40 series torque converter. Should I upgrade to the 44 magnum that holds 5k rpm and spend $100+ or would the normal 40 series Drive hold up even though I'm sure i would have to maintain it more often? Also does the 40 series Driven face the same way compared to the 30 series or is it okay to make it face any side? Also do you know where I can buy a mounting plate for the 40 series or would a 30 series mounting plate work for a 40 series? Thank you and great video!

the 40 should work ok, the 40 Driven faces the opposite way of the driver. It would be best to make a jackshaft for the driven instead of getting a plate.

It's your choice but you need a BIGGER sprocket on your engine think about it what RPM dose your engine max out at 3200rpm now what RPM will a motorbike max out at 6500rpm it's a no brainer if you have one.

I would use a belt between the engine and transmission. That chain is likely to come off at 5000rpm and hurt somebody after some short time.

Perhaps just find a complete running Honda bike engine like the one he destroyed, and toss the Harbor Freight engine? It would also cut the drivetrain weight in half and not have all the extra moving parts and alignment to worry about. An old Honda CB450 twin engine would have 10x the power and half the weight and clutter. Or if you want reverse just get a good running Honda or Yamaha 4 wheeler engine and you're done.

mountain dude I built a quad with one of these transmissions it's really simple and fast it uses a foot shifter and I converted mine to horizontal input. It does have infinite gearing possibilities and it's incredibly easy to change up the ratios.. I got the trans for free and the motor for 99$ brand new.. I have vids of the build, how I made the trans work and it driving

They built what looks to be a motorcycle, dirtbike, or four wheeler engine, they ran a keyed shaft in place of the crankshaft so it can be externally driven so you can use the engines transmission.

I got the whole head torn off and instead of makeing a shaft were the crankshaft was i tryed to find a way to fit a sprocket on the factory crank. Then i couldent figure it out so i put it in storage.

Yo t man. Think about it. That used the be the crank of the engine. So same size sprocket on the engine and the input of the transmission would be the same as if the gear case still had the piston attached to it. 1:1 ratio.
