I don't have a car or even a license but I was into RC cars when brushless motors and LiPo batteries quickly made combustion performance obsolete. It's just so funny to me to see full sized cars struggle with the same challenges of suddenly having access to way too much power rather than chasing every little incremental increase.

Here in the states we need to get a smog check every year to renew the license. The test stations plug into the OBD port and check for all those emissions results, so even though the electric would be 100% clean, it would not pass. Cars that are over 25 years old are exempt from smog testing, so it looks like conversions of older cars is the only option until the bureaucrats catch up.

I have question, cars that are produced are type approved before production so safety standards for that vehicle are tested and approved. When you take on a vehicle to convert you are altering that vehicle from its standard approval. How does this affect insurance and say type approve if you are altering its original design. As many vehicle designs are put together scientifically so that every component is part of its strength and possibly used to avoid say engines ending up on your lap. I often wonder about production car alterations.

This uses an air cooled engine in the centre of the cab and it has occurred to me that this vehicle might be an ideal candidate for an Electric Conversion. Great content!!!! As a barely sub 50 year old, I grew up daydreaming of one day driving and owning a multitude of 80s classics, I say classics because i seem to remember considering them classics from the day of their release. I soon came to realise however, that reliability, real world use, running costs and not to mention insurance made these dreams somewhat unobtainable, that was until a few years ago when I discovered your work, and all of a sudden i found myself once again daydreaming of those beloved 80s classics, only this time around they were somehow better, improved, matured versions of themselves. So to be handed the opportunity to Electrify the car of my dreams, one might even say the car of my Daydreams, seemed like a good idea, that was until the bitter sweet realisation that my daydream would be recreated for some undeserving individual who probably does not know what it is to have wasted the best part of 40 years daydreaming about a truly reliable 80s classic! I am however wearing my big boy pants today so in the name of fair play i will provide enlightenment and make clear to all that the one true path lies behind the wheel of the 1988 Lancia Delta Integrale, closely followed by the 1984- Audi Quattro Turbo. That said I appreciate just how rare these cars are to find these days so might I also suggest a few alternative dreamboats such as the Peugeot 205Gti or the Golf Gti MK1 reams of Fords oh hang on a minute, i got it, old skool SAAB 900. OK i will stop it now, the simple truth is that I might be a little indecisive, but I think this era might have something to offer. GOOD LUCK love the work!
