I loathed ground combat, especially when I got it doing randoms. Always died. But then I watched videos from multiple people, invested in the kits, Shax Cannon, and traits and now I can survive in Elite Level Ground. Now I don't mind ground combat. It really does change if you make a good build. Thanks Stu!
@Ulkomaalainen5 ай бұрын
While I lack the energy, time and (in-game) money to really get a meta build of any kind, yeah, I can certainly second the gist of this. I hated ground and was sad about it after all the Space Barbie I did on it (or should that be Ground Barbie?). Mostly pressing 1-2, little use for kits and similar. But, as Stu said in the beginning, educating myself helped. Understanding the game better already makes a huge difference not only in DPS but also in fun. And I can at least pick out some stuff I can easily get (I love doing the summer event, so the 1000 lolnuts on the kit frame were cheap for me) and pay what little I have for that which would benefit my play style most made my ground build a lot better, arguably better than my space build, and made me enjoy ground a lot more.

There's no excuse for people to leave rude comments. If they don't like meta no one is forcing them to play it. I appreciate your videos.
@QuantumNova4 ай бұрын
Meta is extremely bad for any game. From dev's point of view those players are ignoring 98% of the (8000+) items in game in favor a few (aka like 6). If that ever happened in my game, I'm nerfing all 'meta' items into oblivion! From a player's point of view, meta is doing too much so damage - other players may not get a chance to do damage. See Dyson zone V-rex. Most players can't even get off a shot or even reach the V-rex... Meta play is *CANCER* in STO or any game that was meant to have many options to gameplay. Normal players have the right to be mad. There's a reason for the anger and rudeness. Now you know...

I usually run a fabrication/Crowd Control AOE Death field build on my Engineer. Basically Chains of Grethor to drag everything in one place and then kill them with The Floor is Lava and/or Ball lightning, the other three slots go to the Nanite medical generator from one of the reps because it gets rid of debuffs, a mortar, and the last one is a either a beam turret/flame thrower or a fun slot for whatever I'm messing with at the time. My Risian weather witch build is also super fun to use once in a while.

Gravitational Juncture vs. Anchor of Grethor. Seems like Anchor does more damage and the pull activates faster.
@juangutierrez89775 ай бұрын
Does more damage, has a wider radius to pull from, and cool down is about half. No question, this is the one to use.
@valerie93_5 ай бұрын
In general play the anchor is better because of the damage, in DPS meta runs we use grav juncture specifically because it does NOT do damage but instead debuffs the resists on the enemies. By making sure all the enemies get pulled in alive, then your 5-10 mines that are in the bubble will each singly hit every enemy pulled in, so if you only pull in one enemy that's 5-10 explosions of 5000-10000 damage each. Stacking the mine damage like that is why engineers are so OP on ground

Anchor of Grethor is also an excellent Engi Kit module, doing high damage and offering control. It's fairly easy to get as it is from the Winter Event store.

My first STO character was an Engineer, because I have a real life interest in Engineering. Back when the max level was 50, I was only level 45 at the time and some Tactical Captain who was level 50 challenged me to a private PVP match. I don't remember what I was armed with besides the Engineering Enemy Neutralization Kit (again, before they had separate kit modules, each kit had built-in module-like abilities that couldn't be changed.) The Enemy Neutralization Kit had Chroniton Mine Barrier, Transphasic Bomb, Fuse Armor, and Weapon Malfunction. This Tactical Captain was 5 levels above me and I ruined his day, he didn't get a single kill on me and ended up rage-quitting before we could finish the match. That Enemy Neutralization Kit was pretty awesome, that was also before the Nerfed the Chroniton Mine Barrier, back then its damage completely ignored shields and did a lot of damage on top of that, I had a lot of one-hit-kills with it.

Thank you for this, I am very curious about one change which is to use Engineering Kit Module - Anchor of Gre'thor as the aoe pull. It has the benefit of being cast in first person shooter mode without anytime, wherever you want to place it with no enemy target required. (On top of mines for example). Has a very fast recast too.
@juangutierrez89775 ай бұрын
Yeah, I saw a guy doing this in Elite Minor Instabilities and most of us had nothing to do. He killed everything really fast. Plant both sets of mines in one spot, place anchor on them when enemies spawn, boom, they're gone.
@valerie93_5 ай бұрын
In general play the anchor is better because of the damage, in DPS meta runs we use grav juncture specifically because it does NOT do damage but instead debuffs the resists on the enemies. Stacking the mine damage like that is why engineers are so OP on ground. Counterintuitively, the stronger pull module (anchor) for general play will severely nerf your overall dps in record runs because everything is dead before it gets to the mines
