as i tried with almost similar frog lure design , i placed two wire in the middle of the lure , the wire were not making contact to the hook point but a little bit higher then the hook point ,the results were fabulous in the dense weed . and there was a gap between hook and the wires so we wouldn't miss the bites ! i'm a really fan of your innovations 👍

The abu garcia reel in the beginning of the video is the same reel i used when i began fishing here in Toronto Ontario Canada. The reel has hundreds of northern pike/bass/bowfin/carp on it. The original handle fell off one day and i lost it in the water. My grandpa hand crafted a new one on his lathe. He passed away and i retired the reel. Never the less, i fish alot of jump frogs! My room mate brought me back some hand made jumpfrogs from Thailand and i fell in love with them. Im working on my own design that also uses a magnetic system but totally different than this. Best of luck!

Great video and Great looking lure. I still envision a dual hook mounted together side-by-side and separated evenly at the barb end, which could also add weight. Black top, orange belly, yellow legs is a thought for color. Thanks for keeping it interesting and informative.

Those are pretty close to the colors I was thinking of using. Thank you for the encouragement.

Great presentation! Anxious to try this for snakeheads in heavy cover. Seems like you could get away with cutting the leg material long enough for both legs, wrapping it back a little longer from the middle before gluing and cut it in half with a razor blade.

Cool design... very reminiscent of a Croatian egg lure. The rotating hook is a unique design, I've never seen anything like that.

Had to look it up, but you're right very similar to the egg lure. Mine is really somewhere between a jump frog and these egg lures. Thanks for letting me know.

Use a piece of wire that you make your hook hangers with, plant it in the vise and tie the legs off that. Works great, then tie it off very secure with a light dab of glue and slide off. If done that a few times

Kinda similar how the salmon, steelhead and pike fisherman tie on tubes for the tube flies

As always - Nice video, cool lure. Will have to make myself a frog at some point. Not sure it's optimal for pikes, but would fun to make anyway

Do pike go after topwater very much...? What would be their forage...mice, small birds?

@@EngineeredAngler People use baits like rats, duclings and of cause frogs. But here it is more like a summertime for fun thing. Generally I think that jerkbaits and shads would be a better choice, if you ar not fishing directly within weeds.

What a great job designing this bait. I was wondering if you added a split ring on the hook eye if this would allow you to change hooks. This would mean the wire eyelet inside the bait is now 90 degrees off. Although this may give the hook too much movement and it wouldn't reset consistently. Just a few thoughts after watching. Great job though. As a scientist, I love your approach to fishing.

Thank you so much. I have been considering some options to make the hook replaceable . In the final configuration it will be . Stay tuned for a video with the new design . Nice to know that you like my approach. I'm trying to keep the engineering as accessible as possible to everyone who watches. And try not get too caught up in the nerd zone.

If add a hook to the bottom would it change up it's movement ? Less weedless I know but other than that ? 🤔

Does that nylon hair float like bucktail hair or does it saturate and sink?
@EngineeredAngler3 жыл бұрын
it doesn't exactly act like bucktail but, it wont absorb water and floats pretty nicely. Just doesn't move as naturally as bucktail.

try to put on a swiwel between the wire and the hook, then the fish can turn and roll without braking loose.
