After working in Geophysics. rock mechanics, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, hydrogeology, etc. etc. ad nauseum for the past several decades, I find this guy RIGHT ON!!! CE? Comedy engineering. Goddamn engineers! Think they are gods but I always remind them....those equations you like to use were created by a scientist!!! I always say, "There are two types of engineers. Ones that say, 'do this, this and that, don't do that or that or that, pour me another beer and call me in the morning'. Then there are the other kind that calculate everything and figure this and that and still don't know what the hell the project is they were suppose to work or the problem that needed solved in the first place!! And yes, geology isn't as much as science as it is an art. It's trying to figure out the artwork God created over the millennium and eons. Even the stuff I learned back in the 70's has been already superseded or in some cases debunked.

Notice that crack seems alot of them form a line and its between middle and curb. That's water main. I know this is no where near your level in life I'm 60 and always liked learning about underground water movement . I'm actually putting together a map that converts 2 maps. Present satellite and 1629 map. Starting at a pond outlet weaving through neighbourhoods and ends at beach. People ask what the f are you doing that for. I can picture 1629 like i was there

I do not know if the “Leaning Tower of Pisa” in Italy is still talked about much. They were still trying to keep it from tilting more when I was in my 30s. Well, there is a new and considerably bigger leaning tower in San Francisco. Undoubtedly built with great earthquake technology that is possibly not going to help if a 6.9 hits like in 1989. They were trying to shore it up on the one side last I checked. Even if they stop it from tilting what can they do to level the building? Anyway students learning from this experienced and brilliant man might want to follow the saga. It didn’t stop settling at the max they expected and then it started tilting. Really bad is that it is in a place where very strong earthquakes happen and there are structures all around it. If the one in Pisa falls it won’t land on another building. For those interested in structural engineering and/or demolishing of old buildings, the Japanese have come up with a method that allows more recycling and actually takes less time overall. Other methods require a lot of planning time before starting. The new method drops the building one floor at a time. They gut the floor and use hydraulics to support and then lower the building. Gut that floor and repeat.
