There are still a lot of skilled people out there but then they are given a time limit and a budget. Its really hard sometimes to convince the people spending the money that spending more in the beginning will be cheaper in the long term. It’s also another skill to understand which things will need to last long term and which things will be reimagined and altered or renovated in 10years.

Retired now but I flew Lear Jets in the lower 48, then I flew in Alaska for 10 years, and then flew cargo DC-10's and MD-11's internationally and worldwide. I have flown around the world as well. No longer flying due to a heart issue. It was great to see the world thru my own eyes...retired in Florida.

Do you have the ability to pump water to a fire truck? Having lived in fire country, hydrants at the end of the line will go dry during high demand. Pools are life savers.

Mike, amazing job on this project! I do have to say though, looking at the work area it seems pretty dangerous with the fall hazard next to the pool. If someone were to trip they could potentially go over that edge. It may be worth putting up a temporary barrier. Seems like overkill but it could save someone.

Awesome project! One thing I noticed is the lack of railings or things to prevent somebody from falling into the pool or off the side into the yard. Would hate to see someone get hurt. Only happy memories associated with the pool ya know haha Edit: Also, I absolutely love the sprinkler valve system you set up! Getting things done correctly and planning ahead for the future is always satisfying to see.

I’ve had a bad experience with slip fittings, and had to replace about 12 of them. Your mounting location is incredibly solid, so I doubt you’ll ever have a problem. I love how functional, and bulletproof you’re making your new house!

Sorry to say but I think you under done the the main point of leak that being plastic pipe joint . Why 3:38 because it is only tested to 8bar that doesn't include the joint with a thin film of epoxy. Find the point of mass pressure .i.e pump to surface and work back.

I love that sprinkler manifold design. Great job in the thinking it through. I've inherited several sprinkler systems and experienced the problems you spoke of. Pretty sure my shovel is also a sprinkler timer wire detector. Also, gophers love filling up those access boxes with their tailings. Your house is incredible but I notice you not only have a good crew working but your family is putting in the sweat equity also. Great example.

I think it is a bit overkill. I didn't see a backflow preventer or pressure regulator.. Plus as a sprinkler guy I have had 3 of those grey Mechanical engineering fittings fail on me this year... Did I tighten them to much? it was always on hunter valves. maybe the hunter valves thread centerline and surface were not perpendicular. ALso where does all that water drain to if there is a big failure in the pool or sprinkler line. Is this a curbless room? what would flood if water gets our of that room.?

Turning the coupler so that the bolt pattern is parallel to the wall does have some benefit as it allows easier access and a larger swing arc on those 2 bolts than the 1 bolt rear bolt would have if the coupling was turned 90 degrees. Mike might not have thought of this while installing it on camera, but folks that have built a lot of things tend to have an intuition about this kind of thing. Sometimes it doesn't look right because it's *not* right.

Im just curious how you run the pipes through the wall out, without having the risk of water leaking along them inside. You would need a sleeve on every one of them, which is difficult when you have a bunch of them next to each other

It’s good that you turned the valve square to the wall to rid the glued connection from any air bubbles. I was always taught to twist the freshly glued joint immediately 1/4-1/8” for that reason. I like the system, nice work 👍👍

Amazing. I built my pool in 2004 by myself except for the plaster. I used 1" thick quartzite slate for my pool's entrance and it looks just as amazing as the day I installed it. When the sun hits the stone it looks so cool under water. Those repair couplings (expandos) are pretty solid, we use them often at work for water line repairs when three's not other options. I would have used 24v AC motorized stainless steel or brass valves and not those rainbird plastic venturi valves. Also consider installed a debri trap upstream the irrigation valves to prevent tiny rocks from keeping the venturi flap from sticking open because the debri traps you have are installed wrong.

Would be awesome to see a vid from you on idk, "just get it done" etc. Got a house with a lot of problems and I hate starting jobs without the perfect plan/materials selection/etc. You seem like you got it all figured out, but I suspect you do your research and just roll with your plan even if you make mistakes. Cant see it any other way with such a large job unless you got people in the background planning and helping you execute perfectly... lots of this your doing on your own or have your daughter helping you haha. Mike, you might consider placing a nice framed Decompression Table on the wall at the deepest part of the pool. And/or some graphics on the wall that scale the depth of the pool to the oceans the bottom being the Marianas Trench and the depths of note in the water column. Such as the depth of the Titanic, height of Mt Everest, etc. Just some light reading while fetching the quarter Uncle Mark tossed in.
