I remember in the early 2000s trying to make my vehicle a "sleeper" but then I added an Aeromotive pump to it because I needed the fuel flow. You could hear the pump buzzing around the block more then the engine or exhaust at idle/low rpm lol.

Aeromotive has great stuff and great selection. Oddly enough I used one on my GM TBI setup. It requires around 12PSI. Which is above your typical carb and way below EFI requirements. Aeromotive was the only one who had an adjustable regulator in that weird range. I bough it in the early 2000's and still use it today.

We used Aeromotive pumps in high performance marine back in the early 2000's. Gale's observation that the big pump would cause heating of the fuel during one periods of low demand was definitely true in our case. Way back then, Aeromotive developed the ability to slow the pump speed to lower fuel bypass flow. It also took demand off the alternator, whose output was marginal at idle. We found that spending hours idling in no-wake zones would discharge the batteries.

Never have luck with Aeromotive. Did their in tank kit, and the kit is great, but the pump lasted 12 minutes. Replaced it with a Walbro and it ran for years. A1000 issues everywhere even on motor no pushing the pump. Regulators have been an issue also, but maybe it's just not my size. Now Weldon regs and Wlabro pumps have never failed me.

Mr Banks from what you are describing you may do better to get a closed center hydraulic pump. This would be a load sensing system that when there is demand a shuttle in the pump adjusts a swash plate and volume increases. It would run a pilot pressure and then jump from there.

Fuel heating is a major factor in marine fuel injection systems. Most have fuel coolers and on gasoline systems, most are return less. It does no good to return fuel to a tank unless it’s cooled anyway since the tank doesn’t have cooling air around it like a car. Vapor lock is a big problem on marine EFI systems. On inboards there is usually an anti siphon valve at the top of the tank and this increases vacuum in the fuel line ahead of the pump. In tank fuel pumps are usually not safe or can’t pass Coast Guard rules (pump distance from engine rule). But one ski boat mfg has found a way, or did they ?

That is amazing, to be able to take one wire and change the speeds of the pump in such a wide range! I'm interested to see fuel temperatures on the diesels, because in my class 8 trucks the fuel delivery systems are poor at best. I'd love to see what kind of results you get!

I really loved this video - I just wish I understood what Gale was talking about. Could Gale do a "fuel pressure v flow rate for dummies" video?
@NovaNinja_
@NovaNinja_ 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you need a whole video. Think of it like a garden hose... Flow rate is volume, or how much water (gallons/liters per minute/hour) comes out the hose. Pressure is how forceful it comes out (PSI, KPa, etc.) Fuel injectors require a certain amount of pressure to work, and your engine demands a certain volume of fuel to run properly. Typically, as flow rate increases, pressure drops (think of having a larger diameter garden hose, it requires more water to build pressure) so if you need high pressure and high volume you need a fairly large pump. Diesel engines run very high fuel pressure but typically low volume, but if you're building performance diesels and your fuel demand increases, you need a bigger pump that can supply the pressure and the volume

I'm not sure about diesel, but nearly all automotive gas engines have completely abandoned return fuel systems due to the EVAP emissions requirements
@toranaandy2245
@toranaandy2245 4 жыл бұрын
Diesel engine systems use the fuel to also cool and lubricate the pressure pump and injectors. You will find most common rail systems use a cooler on the return line to help with that heat removal

@fredygump5578 4 жыл бұрын
@@cencoast_7.340 You still need an intermediate device if you want "all" sensors to work. Some sensors will work great out of the box, but some might have an inverse response to what you want, where the output drops s you are wanting the pump to speed up, some may have a limited range of output voltages...some might have a digital output.

Just a stupid idea I got watch this, wuld it be a dum idea to make a regulator with a valve position sensor? And control the pump speed whit regular valve position 🤔 it would be a plug and play version for carb cars or older ifa cars if the pump response time is there 🤔

That's a very good idea. I assume you mean you set it so the pump regulates it's output to maintain a set return volume? If you haven't done so, might be well worth communicating your idea to Aeromotive.
