At 0 Kelvin, dear friend! At 0 K! You forgot an important part of the definition of Fermi level.

Sir in IA Shaikh , Statement is In p type of semiconductor, holes are majority carriers and its FERMI LEVEL IS JUST ABOVE THE ACCEPTOR LEVEL at room tempertaure (300K). But According to you, Fermi level is below the acceptor level . Answer please!
@EngineeringPhysicsbySanjiv
@EngineeringPhysicsbySanjiv 2 жыл бұрын
Just above valence band.. it is between acceptor level and valence band.. but if temperature is increased it will move up and may go above acceptor level.. but can't go above middle of the forbidden gap..

Hello sir! Thanks for the great video! I have a question. The definition I found about the fermi level is that it is the energy level that the probability of occupancy is 1/2. However in p type and n type semiconductors this doesn't seem to be the case . Can you please help me figure it out. Thanks in advance!
@EngineeringPhysicsbySanjiv
@EngineeringPhysicsbySanjiv Жыл бұрын
That definition applies for Fermi level in metals.. For semiconductor it is reference level that gives info about ratio of electrons in conduction band and holes in valence band

What is Ei and Ef in the diagram?
@EngineeringPhysicsbySanjiv
@EngineeringPhysicsbySanjiv 3 жыл бұрын
Ef denotes the Fermi level in a given semiconductor. Its position will change depending on temperature and doping level. Ei is denotes the position of Fermi level in intrinsic semiconductor. So, Ei will always at the middle of forbidden gap.
