Engine of Metron North, ACMU
The ACMU started out in service shortly after World War Two and lasted up until 2004. They started out in the hands of a railroad who couldn't afford them. The New York Central, which ordered the cars to displace their original EMU's which entered service in 1909. There were soon more orders to come. The long island railroad also ordered a car in this series. The cars survived through Conrail, and Penn central and made it well into the metro north era, being retired in 2004 with the arrival of the M7.

Also two of these cars survive at the Kentucky Railway Museum cars 1105 and 1153. With 1105 being in service. When the museum bought them they where told they where converted to 420 volt AC power for HEP but this was not true. So they rewired 1105 for AC HEP power and are using 1153 for storage and parts.

The GE 1240 motors and SCM control make the 1962/1965 ACMUs very similar to the contemporary R29/R32/R33/R36.

What's odd is that the first ACMU's were built at about the same time as Montreal's MU's, but the latter used 1920's technology like grinding gears, open windows, etc. while the ACMU's were at that time the most modern thing on rails.

I remember seeing those trains bouncing along the rails, my dad would take me over to botanical gardens station to watch the trains and I’d see them , like one eyed monsters coming up from Fordham rd. I also got to see third avenue el trains crossing over the ny central tracks onto Webster ave and over the concrete structure by moshulu pky. I liked watching the signals change color and go back to green over green long after the train passed. I remember an accident at botanical gardens station sb, where another train ran into the back of another and stopped rail traffic in both directions, I rode over on my bike to survey the damage and partially restored service on express and northbound local tracks, trains were constantly going by I never saw an electric locomotive till that day, back in 1975. Never rode on an acmu train only m3-7 fleet. Supposed to comfortable riding on these trains.

If your talking about the French turbo liners they were already done by amtrakguy365 and the UTC turbo train was done by viarilfan6448. As for the spv-2000 it will probably be done, just after the rdc. By the way viarailfan6448 already did a video on the rdc.

Loved these cars, had my last ride on these on December 28th 2004, on 1171 actually. I filmed the ride between Hartsdale and North White Plains inside the car, one day I will have that tape converted to digital. I remember seeing them in a big line in North White Plains yard in February of '05 waiting to be hauled off to scrap, then sitting on a siding near Mount Vernon West covered in graffiti that summer.

Have you done the Pullman Washboards of the New Haven yet? I'm speaking of the 4400 series MCUs that were replaced by the Budds circa 1970.

The Washboards were in service around twenty years and (after being replaced by the Budd "Metropolitans" were used near Bridgeport and New Haven for odd assignments until 1981 when they were scrapped. The 4400s are all gone. But there are one or two copies of the follow-up Washboards up at the Danbury rail museum.

Here are photos of one of the Danbury specimens: www.danburyrailwaymuseum.org/muwirecars.htm When you do your research, be sure to investigate the daily bridge game that took place in the back of the train between corporate executives for very big stakes. Anyone who tried to sit near the game was to be held got ushered away by the conductor. The game lasted years. There was a New York Times piece about the game.

Speaking of pullman standard cars being in service way too long, Metra has some pullman bilevels dating back to 1956, yea you read that right. 1956.

@@nyrailfan202 Well they have the original seats but new led interior lighting and new "lightining bolt" exterior paint. Metra also has slightly newer versions from around 1960, which have a blue and orange striped livery. Most used to run for the C&NW (Chicago and North Western Railroad) but some are ex Rock Island.
@planeflight1202

Funny to think about it but half of Metra's fleet existed before they did. They also have a lot of budd bilevels. Ex Milwaukee Road, Bnsf, Rock Island and Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad.
