M9s are replacing M3As. The M8s second order will kill the M2s off.

Plus M2s aren't doing to so well in recent years. Their maintenance track record has been slowly deteriorating. The only reason why the few set are still around is because Metro-North didn't take the second option order for M8s when the M8s were initally purchased. They finally used that second option earlier this year so a string of 50 M8s are coming to kill off the rest of M2s. I also heard this might be the return of the bar cars but that has yet to be proven .

The M3A aren’t going anywhere Until 2026 they stay in service way longer than the M1/M3 M2/4/6 ever did which is weird because the M3A run near the Hudson thx got MNRR and budd made them stainless steel instead of aluminum

The M9S for Long Island railroad is completely done right now as we speaking. However No ifs and buts about the M9AS for metro North because the M9AS for metro North railroad is still getting the M9AS. The pandemic had held every thing back that was supposed to take place. Metro North railroad is definitely getting 2 92 cars of M9AS. What the R262/As gets here it will replace all the R62AS R62S on the 1 3 6 S lines for CBTCS for the A devisins iRT lines.
