BTW I wrote most of that Wikipedia page you were reading there ;-) I actually really appreciate it with the audio-visual backing and such.

Metroliners did not use Budd Pioneer III trucks due to the size of the traction motors. They had to use outboard bearing equalized trucks similar to a GSI 70.

Thank you for the video and information. For 54 years I have lived in Lawndale. Back in the mid to late seventies we had an eye doctor that worked out of Center City needless to say and my parents and I Road many of these trains to Reading Terminal. It was the only Doctor Who actually look forward to going to see because I actually got to ride on a train. Ironically enough as I got older I decided I wanted to become a welder and I got trained right down the street from the Budd Hunting Park plant Randolph Skill Center at Henry and Roberts Avenue. The Budd Company became much more than just a local manufacturer but went on to revolutionize the railroad industry!

@@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren I've seen a few of your other videos, including about the good one about the Maryland accident, so I'm familiar with your production quality and that you do these videos because you love trains. What I have to say isn't complaing, rather it is advice on what is necessary to your audience. Redo this video. Because it is the first a series, some may be so turned off that they might not see your later work where your skills have improved slightly. Before uploading, always check the sound levels. Overbearing music makes a video unwatchable. Also, a small investment in a quality microphone designed for voice recording will also ensure that what you say is heard by those of us who are interested in what you want to say.

The traction motors (WH-1454A) were pulled from the cars and were used as spares for the Almond Joys.
@nyshortline5 жыл бұрын
Two things: First, you mentioned the Almond Joy cars having the same motors and right angle drive as the Pioneer III's. Correct, except the Almond Joys were built 2 years AFTER the Pioneer III's, not before. Also not many people know this but the Brazillian RDC's with the Silverliner bodies were already under construction to replace the Bullets and Straffords on the P&W Norristown High-Speed Line as third rail electric MU's when the order was was cancelled and the 19 bodies became RDC's for Brazil instead. It was a blessing in disguise as it effectively doubled the lives of the Bullets and Straffords.
@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren5 жыл бұрын
So they attempted before to replace the smooth bullets and they failed. Never knew that. I'd rather have those instead than the piece of junk N5s we have now. Sure they got good horns and accelerate fast but they are a mechanical mess and don't forget one lost its brakes and caused the speeds to drop. Hence why it's the "Slow speed line now"

Thunderbolt 1000's sound BAD ASS! Usta be a big thing here in North Texas.
@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren6 жыл бұрын
I can agree. We use to have 165 Thunderbolts here in Limerick (Mostly 1000s where I live but there were a handful of 1000Ts but I've only heard the 1000s) I partly lost my hearing temporarily when I went up close to one during their tests. Now all we have are T-128s. Peach bottom in Southern PA had 1000s and a 2001-130 (the 2001 was an add on for better sound coverage) too but they are also gone except for the 2001.

Strasburg got just the empty shells, there was nothing of historic value left inside them...A Silverliner II would be more valuable than a Pioneer III at that point.
@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren6 жыл бұрын
I was aware of that and I'm sure I said it was probably because of that but it was probably muffled by the way too loud music. Makes sense even if they were the last remaining Pioneer IIIs in existence but there is an RDC-1 in Brazil seen occasionally in this video which carries on the Pioneer III story abroad.

They're not engines, they're electric multiple unit cars. Engines make their own power and carry the fuel with them. EMUs get power from outside sources.
@Thunderbolt_1000_Siren5 жыл бұрын
Well I can't call it EMUs of SEPTA or motors of SEPTA as I'm covering more than that. Including the toasters and the maintenance diesels too eventually.

True but hes just showing the units septa has used. Dont be so critical. Im a huge electrical nerd and yes the technical term is motor since it uses electricity but geez dont go after Thunderbolt.
