Join me as I walk along the Finchale Camino Ingles in County Durham at the start of the Camino ingles in England in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims. Starting at Finchale Priory ruins, I go on a pilgrimage walk to the awe-inspiring Durham Cathedral.
Experience the beauty and history of England's Camino de Santiago, from Finchale Priory to Durham Cathedral. This pilgrimage route, also known as the Finchale Camino Inglés, will take you from ancient ruins through stunning landscapes to a unesco world heritage site. Join me on this journey and discover the spiritual and cultural significance of the Camino de Santiago, here in the UK!
Finchale Priory is where St Godric, a hermit lived. He was the first British pilgrim to make the journey to Santiago de Compostela. It is therefore fitting that this is now the official starting point of the Camino Ingles in England, in County Durham. If you walk this camino and collect stamps in your pilgrim passport, the kms counts toward your Camino Ingles walk in Spain, as it is recognised as an official route.
Durham Cathedral is awe-inspiring final resting place of St Cuthbert, and is a UNESCO world heritage site. The Friends of Finchale Camino have worked to establish this camino route from the north of England following the route medieval pilgrims would have taken en route to Santiago de Compostela in Northern Spain.
