This is all deja vu again. The MSM start off with we’re going to win it this time. The supermarkets stock the beer high and the fans reluctantly then expectantly buy in. England play woeful but get out of an ordinary group probably (still) as group winners. The fans complain about the coach having no in game management. Some ex players now pundits break ranks and agree others toe the FA line and say it’s not that bad. England then start to play decent with huge slices of luck and a wonder goal or two and get through to the QF/SF. Pens come along and England get knocked out/go through. Better teams fall away but maybe this time England win it. If they do it will be ‘Sir’ Gareth which makes a mockery of the award rightfully given to Matthews and Charlton and not to Moore and Greaves. He is a championship level manager who is a fully paid up member of the LMC, the Lucky Managers Club. Please, please I hope United still have an ounce of common sense and keep him well away if the season starts badly for ETH.

Trent played better than rice today. I don’t understand why Trent is being blamed today. Trent can control a midfield if the team wants possession, which was not England today. Reflecting on last season’s Premier League, I don’t remember hearing many good performances from TAA in center midfield, compared to Gallagher, Rice, Mainoo, and even Wharton. And that also doesn’t include Bellingham of course.

The problem with England is that there is no real identity or defined way of playing. It’s just a group of decent individuals who are being asked to play in a way that is alien to them. Most of that team are capable of high pressing, capable of making clever runs and capable of transitioning well. It’s clear they have no confidence in Southgate’s tactics.

It's a good point - all of the players in this England squad play attacking forward thinking football. I've just watched a great season of English football in the most exciting league in world football and the players out there looked nothing like they do at their own clubs. The problem is Rice and Bellingham. I’m not an England fan, couldn’t care less what results they get but from watching both their matches against Iceland and Denmark, their goals against them have come due to an insane amount of space in the middle of the park or what we used to get told as kids back in New Zealand, close up the hole. Because watching from home you can see how insanely large that hole is in the middle of the field for England.

There is no leadership at all and that's where the passion starts. The pictures from the TV when England were coming out the tunnel for the second half, Kane did not say a word to get the players going. The only player to try and get people going was Pickford. A shocking team performance.
