Let's face it and we all know England failed to qualify because at Wembley in April '93 we led 2-0 against Holland but let it slip to a 2-2 draw, had we have beaten Holland we would've put them out, then in June '93 we went to Oslo and lost 2-0 to Norway and this game and defeat to Holland in Rotterdam was the final in the coffin.

I watched a live commentary of this great England team against my country's Super Eagles on Nov 16? 1994. The then African champions almost knocked out the Italians at the wc ....Maldini and Custacorta almost tearing Yekini's shirt off him to stop him from scoring and getting off scot-free.....I mean the Super Eagles were voted the 2nd most entertaining bunch of ballers at USA 94 but David Platt exploited Rufai's weakness of poor handling of crosses and headed in the lone goal at Wembley. That's the hallmark of a great team....ability to win even when you don't particularly play as beautifully as your opponent. I was sad when I didn't get to see them at USA 94 . And the Norwegians that picked the other ticket, drab and boring despite their 1-0, 0-0 and 0-1 at USA....Lacking individual flair, no Gazza or Platt kind of player in them.

Shows you what a terrible batch of players Taylor had to work with. Seaman was a good league keeper whilst the English league was poor but so weak for England against clever international players. As others have said, Seamans positioning was terrible and gave Koeman almost the whole goal to aim at and he just couldnt leap at all, so weak against high shots. Chris Woods would have probably stopped both goals and was a better keeper overall. I just cant believe Taylor only had Merson, Platt, Sharpe, Salako, Thomas, Palmer as midfield options. Imagine if we only had that now. Appalling group of players.

my personal theory about this game is that one the WC was gonna be played in the US and the yanks were not very keen on having English fans(HOOLIGANISM) in their yard considering the shit that goes on over there, so what happens the yanks and FIFA do everything they can to make sure that the English don't make it, look at the Keoman incident today that is a sending off offence, the free kick is a shambles the Dutch have a man charge out of the wall, nothing happens, but when England do the same thing, Ince gets a card and the cunt that should of been sent off scores....the English fail.....yet two years later England get revenge sweet as you like battering the Orangemen 4 - 1 and football comes home...so it's all good......

That's why players don't charge down direct free-kicks, they jump in the wall. That's why Ince got a yellow card because he moved before the ball had been kicked. No clue about "tactics"? Why was David seaman so highly rated? He wasn't that good atall. This free kick proves how poor he was. Anyone can see that his position was wrong for the free kick.. he had a good defence in front of him at arsenal and it made him look good..

Watch Euro 96 and see him at his peak. His drawback was jumping, but his gk technique was world class. The positioning at the free kick is weird but it's probably because Koeman used to shoot hard on the GK's side. Seaman was great in general.
