It is absolutely absurd how such a small country can produce so much talent. I don't think Portugal gets enough credit for this. the only reason the Portuguese league isn't at least in the top 3 leagues is because their clubs can't compete financially with teams from other countries, so they can never maintain their best players or even managers. But even beyond the Portuguese talent, teams like Benfica Porto and Sporting have been like the main talent hub of Europe these past few years, the best premier league teams are constantly recruiting players from there and even now there are several players from those 3 teams that every single elite club would love to have.

This is an insanely dishonest comment and you have 0 clue what you're talking about. I'm gonna take my time debunking this for you. Firstly, you can make this exact same observation about most of the top European national teams. Have a look at France. What you will notice, though, is that even in France, all of the black players of "AfRiCaN hErItAgE" were BORN IN FRANCE. You'd think that with a comment like yours, half of Portugal's squad would be born in Africa. In reality there are... only 3 players in Portugal's Euro squad that were born in Africa, and none of them are even key players for Portugal. They're Bruma, Toti Gomes and Danilo Pereira. "african heritage" means very little in this context especially because they were born in Guinea-Bissau, a country that has Portuguese as their main national language. All of them also grew up in Portugal from a young age, so this is absolutely meaningless. Go look it up on Wikipedia, all of them started off playing in Portugal in their youth, they never played football in Africa. They are not guys that obtained Portuguese citizenship out of convenience after spending a few years playing in Portugal, they are legitimately 100% portuguese. If you're gonna say "they're of african descent so it doesn't count", then we're all screwed because all of humanity originated in Africa. Your argument is just plain dumb. "the size of the country is immaterial" not when you have a nation with a population of 10 million competing against nations like Germany, with 8x the population size. You sound insanely bitter. You probably think that just because guys like Rafael Leao and Nuno Mendes are black, that means they weren't born in Portugal. Can't wait for you to tell me that Ruben Dias, Ronaldo, Cancelo, Bruno Fernandes, etc. are secretly african.

I'm 54 years old and no longer involved in football but I played organised football up to the age of 30. I then coached teams from under 7's to mens level. Several players I coached had trials with professional clubs in the London area where I live and two became professionals. England lost this game for the same reason England teams have traditionally lost these types of games. Players are to busy 'maintaining a team shape' and not tracking midfield runners from early enough. If a good player gets a five metre headstart on you on in the last or middle third of the pitch it is almost impossible to make that up. The Portugal players constantly made runs from deep into the England penalty area because the England players showed they didn't want to do the work required to stay with the midfield runners. I've seen hundreds of training sessions at Premier League clubs where no defensive responsibility is placed on central midfield players. They are 'the ball players'. I used to say to my teams 'The midfield is the heart of the team. The central midfielders are the heart of the midfield. If the central midfielders don't dominate their opposite numbers 'we will lose'.

This is why Italy has 4 world cups and 2 european cups and England (where the game was invented was it?) only one... First of all, do not concede, mark your fucking man, hit and run. There is always enough talented players in a squad, they will find the way to win. Italian job brings results, at any level in football. If you don't concede you don't lose. Facts not opinions. You have to ask yourself just one question: why in the EPL the first 10 most important clubs (with the exception of Newcastle but not for long...) are coached by foreign managers?

Tired of ignorant people in the comments saying Portugal ‘s black players not being real Portuguese !! Portugal is actually the most African country in Europe , because guess what, we are really close to it ! Portugal ‘s ethnic history is Celtic , Iberian, Roman , and African ! Portuguese sailors went around the world , like the Spanish , the British and the French , and those colonies are now sending their children to Portugal , which is the same all over the world ! People move , migrate and become citizens of other countries ! Sometimes because of war, sometimes for economic reasons and sometimes because of marriage ! Portuguese people are from many ethnic backgrounds and we are proud of it , period ! I don’t see anyone complaining about England , France or the USA! Why always pick on Portugal ?? Why nobody picks on Brazil ? What about Argentina? I never saw 1 black player play for Argentina! Isn’t that strange ? Could it be they are racist? Is that better ? Portugal is a tiny country with only 10 Million Portuguese but we have 3 Ballon D’or winners ! Not bad don’t you think ? It’s about talent , heart, and passion for the game ! We are also champions in futsal, and in beach soccer, if you don’t know ! Grow up people ! Learn your history as well as others history! Respect all ! Viva Portugal ! 🇵🇹🙏🏻⚽️👑🙏🏻
