Take-Notes: ∆ Academic Writing ∆ - Commonly used by teachers and students - to produce educational materials - Serious tones (Standards used for scholarly articles; opposite of conversational english) - Must be in 3rd person POV ( 🚫 I, me you ) - NO slang or jargons Formats used in: • Abstract, Research, thesis, etc. MAIN FOCUS: Stating facts and issues (objective) (X) not academic writing (X) - Social media posts as they contain slang (ex. Dude, cool, sup, babe, etc.) ∆ Professional Writing ∆ - Commonly used in workplace - Less formal in terms of style - Short sentence, not more than 25 words - Can use 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person POV (I, me you she, he) - AVOID qualifiers as it weakens the tone of the paper ( 🚫 prolly, maybe, etc.) - Active voice NOT 🚫 Passive voice MAIN FOCUS: - Giving opinion - advisable to focus on state of action (this means you're endorsing or recommending something) Standard used in: • Journalism, Advertising, Military, Technical writing • Business letter, email, memo, resume writing, press release
