Hi Mark, Thanks for the lesson. Regarding nationality, it seems some nationalities need the definite article "the". For example, The Japanese are polite. The Chinese are hardworking. I am not sure I got it right or not. I would like to hear your opinion. Another question is how to generalize a countable noun? For example, Teachers should be respectful to students. Can I also say " The teacher should be respectful to students? or A teacher should be respectful to students. I read some grammar books and it seems they give different answers. some say that plural countable nouns means the speaker is talking in general. Thanks in advance for your great help.
@MadEnglishTV5 жыл бұрын
Hi! 😃😃Honestly, English articles are extremely confusing. Very often you can choose if you want to use an article or not. For example: Japanese are polite people. The Japanese are polite people. Teachers should be respectful to students. A teacher should be respectful to students. The teacher should be respectful to students. All of those sentences are correct. Usually we use the plural form to talk in general. I believe teachers should be respectful to students.
