Kind of amazing hardly anyone is calling it out, they are pumping the Trainer Gallery cards at the moment and it'll be onto Crown Zenith soon, they are already starting to tee this up.

I've been saying that the English alternate arts are overpriced. It's going to be the same story as Sun & Moon alt arts but that doesn't stop so many people from saying "this time it's different!" I had someone say they wouldn't be surprised if Moonbreon reaches $2000 raw by the end of the year. That is the level of hysteria we are at right now.

Nothing about moonbreon surprises me anymore. Imo moonbreon is such an iconic card that it defies all logic and trends that pretty much all pokemon cards follow. It is the crown jewel of modern collectors collections and with its crazy difficult pull rate it will likely remain king for a long time to come.

I'm bout to just switch to collecting Taiwan cards. I'm pretty sure those are printed in Japan so they got the quality but the pokemon names are in English atleast I'm pretty sure that's Taiwan that does that. Also more importantly they are cheap. Only thing that stops me from getting a bunch of Korean or Japanese cards is because the kids and I like to be able to read atleast the names as personally I don't know a lot of the pokemon after like gen 5

Don't personally own any japanese but I do appreciate the better quality of the cards. Some of the english cards have humerously bad centering, not as nice etching, and the back corners since the scarlet and violet have had a higher chance of little traces of whitening right out of the pack which is kinda annoying. If there was a reason I value english more its because it's my primary language and the fact that coming by a card that's virtually perfect (No surface wear, edge wear, and perfect 50/50 centering) in english is harder to come by than it is for japanese. If there was a japanese card I was interested in It would definitely be the new Geninja ex special illustration. Been seeing it around and would love to pick one up.

@@buffalobill9793 the argument for JP is QC, lower population of chases, and on the language question- players translate cards all the time. There are sites dedicated to translating effects/text. It’s how ppl practice before a set releases in EN. (I don’t collect JP)

Pokemon is the most bipolar franchise when it comes to prices. One moment something is valued fairly just to skyrocket in value practically overnight. 12 years ago you could walk into a GameStop and buy pre owned Pokemon GBA and DS games under MSRP. 10 years ago when I started building my collection, the GB and GBA Pokemon games were selling for at least $50 while you could still buy the DS games around MSRP. Now some of the DS games are running you over $200. It costs more money to buy a single English cartridge of Heart Gold or Soul Silver than it costs to buy every mainline game from gens 1 through 4 in Japanese.

They’ve definitely gotten too hot too fast. Some of them were I think way undervalued before this big spike. But most have gone up too quickly I think. I’m sure they will continue up for awhile then eventually come down but I imagine they will all settle higher than before this run up. I could be an outlier but doesn’t bother me a bit. I look at it as what value do you I put on the cardboard I am collecting. If the market is shooting up and people want to buy then I’m selling! Yes it’s sad to see some of these cards go but at the end of the day just like the stocks I sell high. People can hate all they want but Pokemon at the end of the day will always have some monetary value and it’s up to the person collecting to decide when they are willing to sell. I’ve always appreciated your stance on your cards even when the market went crazy in Japanese. But I try to make money and put it right into my next investment. Or when there are some unexpected bills like my kids new playground set 😂

If you ain't collecting anymore, have no attachment to your cards and have certain key alts many consider "liquid", I'd say sell now or at least very soon. I don't think these prices are sustainable and if you can make out from this insane market spike, go for it. I don't have a crystal ball to say how things will play out in the future/near future but I'm old enough to have lived through the sports cards craze of the 90s and it didn't end well, man. A lot of the hype you see now in cards 100% mirrors what I remember seeing back then.
