You'll find a pair of these or their bigger/smaller brothers in every maintenance shop in the UK... AKA universal key/bolt cutters/bolt cropper etc.

That metallic blue is one of my favourite colours. But use the proper stove enamel blue blue for Record products.

Thanks for watching. I’ve a few other tools that I’ve done in the hammered blue now. Starting to get a bit of a collection.

We still use these bolt croppers in the steelworks,Sheffield UK.

Maybe you are already aware of this, but you can buy a tin of Record blue online in the UK

Thank you for watching, and for your comment. I will have to look out for the ‘official record blue’. I do quite like the hammered blue finish though. It matches most of the other bits that I’ve restored. Thank you for letting me know

How did you fix the gap between the blades?

Why this obsession with tarting up what is basically a working tool. Sure it looks a bit newer but it will cut just the same. All it needed was a bit of oil in the joints and don’t leave it where it’ll get wet and rusty.

I adjusted the bolts on the side (08:09 in the video) until the jaws touched when closed. Thanks for your comment, and for watching.

Did you treat the bolts and the unpainted, exposed steel components? Clear coat, or wax, or oils?
@smalltoolrevival8 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. After being cleaned up, all the nuts and bolts were soaked in a light oil before reassembling. The unpainted surfaces were also given a very light coat of the same oil. I didn’t film any of those bits though. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Did you test their functionality before dismantling? They may have just needed a lubrication and became fully functional. Aesthetics are a waste of time unless you want it in a museum. It’s a tool not art.

Very nice restoration, but you shloud grease everything for preserving it: the articulaitons, the threads, etc...
