Although he was born in Hongkong, David Tao’s father is Taiwanese and David started his music career in Taiwan. That’s also why you can hear he clearly was singing in mandarin with the Taiwanese accent and some features of American English sort of accent as well as he studied in the US before he started his musician career in Taiwan.

It's great that you chose his live version Joe. I went to his concert in Shanghai many years ago. I thought his albums were perfection. Wrong! He just made it even better in his concert with subtle tweaks and creative additions here and there which flew so naturally and beautifully out of him. Absolutely loved every minute of it and worth every penny of the poor fresh graduate that I was. David Tao is a musician with a real flair! A slightly biased recommendation: Marry Me Today (今天你要嫁给我). I had it replayed throughout the dinner on my wedding day!
