I have a 2017 CBR1000RR and a 2016 CBR500R, yet I can’t stop thinking of this bike. The 2019 CBR650R fixes the few things wrong with the 500, mainly in the power department. I bet this is the kind of bike you can rack up some serious miles on.

This looks like a 2019 version of the beloved CBR600F4i: a comfortable and faired sportsbike for the streets with ~100 hp. It's so hard to find a new inline-4 bike with LED lights under $10k USD, but Honda have done it.

i bought this bike in may of 2021. Amazing little bike. Ive owned Harleys, Hondas, Kawasaki. Ive never had a bike handle like this. Its very poised. It goes where you tell it to...every time. You come out of the corner the same way every time. You feel good the whole way through the turn. If you think you want one bad? Get one.. Its not the fastest bike on the market by a long shot. But it will take you sweetest ride. And it looks incredible. I love mine. I would recommend this unit to anyone who wants a great ride.

Lovely middle weight bike and it's a Honda, enough said. Good review and nice to hear Dan say; "I don't want to drop the bike because it is not mine, whilst getting off the gravel infested road". Respect in the right sense of the word. They seem to do that scraping-off-tarmac everywhere. Cheap solution to make it look as if they make the roads better I suppose but it makes it worse and very dangerous whilst causing paint damage etc to the bike, God forbid if you come off it.

I have the naked version, and prefer it actually, but I must say that aesthetically, of course the sport version looks cooler. I guess the trade-off is, is that the naked version can be customized to be a lot more comfortable + adding saddlebags etc. While the sport version looks better with the wind screen + is maybe aerodynamically better overall. Either way, can't go wrong picking one over the other, you'll get the typical Honda quality experience.

Just got my cb650r today. Took me some time to adjust to the slightly higher centre of gravity compared to my Tracer. Police were everywhere (sunny day). But no desire to go too fast anyway. Love it. It has enough torque down low to get through city bits without a problem and enough power to give me a Cheshire Cat smile on open roads. I would have bought an MT09 if not for prohibitive insurance cost. But, apart from the initial torque rush, the 650 is just as much fun and is more forgiving of shoddy riding. Love it. The quickshifter is superbo and is a necessary part of the pleasure of riding the bike. Tail tidy and a softer setting on the rear suspension next.

Hey Dan, as you own a CB650 and have done a long European ride on it, which of the two (CB or CBR) would you prefer for light touring? Does the fairing on the CBR offer better wind protection, even more than your CB650r 'touring version' (I watched that vid too). Cheers

I personally prefer naked/cafe/bobber bikes, I'm the proud owner of a yamaha XSR700. Not usually a fan of sport fairings... However, that is a very attractive bike!

That gravel is left over when roads are resurfaced in the UK and it’s lethal for bikers. I’m so surprised they’re allowed to leave it like that, it can’t be lawful.

Great review! I'm definitely looking at picking one of these up. Love the matte black color. You are the first review I've read/seen that said anything at all good about the tires though. So far everyone else hates the tires.

Yeah, in the dry they were great. No confidence issues. In fact, I felt more confident than on my Metzeler Roatec that are on my CB650R. I think Dunlop have made some very bad OEM tyres over the years so people tend to hate on them.

Use the same tyres as the ninja 650, okay in the dry and warm, any low temp < 10c which lets face it in the UK, is alot of the year and damp conditions, again, I the UK is alot, they're terrible, I changed mine after 1000 miles, looking to change bikes to the CBR650R , but them tyres putting me off.

Depends on your mentality, can you drive without risking your life in an excessive manner? Can you be calm and collected on it as needed?I bought a kawasaki ninja 650 for my first, I don't regret it per say, I enjoy it quite a bit and wont sell it for quite some time, but if I had to do it again I would have gone for the Honda cbr650r, that 4 cylinder sound and 95 hp is not too much I feel. When I got my licence it was on a Honda hornet 600cc 100 hp naked bike, the very first bike I ever rode and it was manageable to me I felt.

they should be improving their cbr600 and 1000's for the prices honda charges its insane that you can get a 2020 s1000rr for 2k less than a fireblade, and the fireblade has 20 LESS horsepower.

I second this.. but honda's thing is, and always has been "refinement" & "jack of all, master of none"... they know well and focus on this platform, even tho their bikes are obviously overpriced and underdeveloped, they do have really smooth everything so you pay for well rounded elegance, style and comfort with just enough performance to keep you happy

There's no reason why you couldn't. It has a nice smooth power delivery and all the rider aids that are useful. It's not an intimidating bike but at the same time it's a bike you can grow with and get more out of the better you get at riding.

My ride is a Harley-Davidson Breakout 17, although to ride daily I needed something more nimble and lighter for my town, so I bought a month ago the new CBR 650R in black, so far I am very very happy with the bike, its my first sport bike, basically I had to "learn" how to ride again since the riding position is so different from my HD and of course much lighter. Just the consumption I dont know how they came up with the 4.7L because the minimum I can do so far is 5,6 L but I don't care hahaha bike is just very fun, enough power for me and overall I think its the best in its segment. I checked other 600cc and Honda seemed to be the best choice/price for what I wanted. I fell in love for the looks of the bike, very agressive, the stock exhaust sound is not great, but not bad at all, for a stock. My HD came up with an stock exhaust that seemed like a popcorn machine hahaha, I didnt rest until I changed it to Vance & Hynes. Anyway keep the good job! Cheers from Portugal! ;)
