It is important to take the medical career into stride. (this is personal example) Her innovative content made a splash, which was beyond her wildest dreams. I found myself at the end of the tether when I came in 2nd place. Drama series can make you feel down in the dumps. I think it's time to clear the air and make peace. Watching KZbin too much puts me off stride from studying. After graduating I hope everything will fall into place. If you put bread on grass, ants will come thick and fast. After two attemps of trying to lose weight, I threw in the towel. . . . Thank you, Katia! These idioms are very useful! ❤️

Hello!! I've checked your examples! The first sentence: this idiom doesn't work in this sentence. In the sentence about KZbin you can also use the verb "to distract". The rest is great!! 😁

Hi Katya! Thanks for your lessons. I have written these sentences. Can you take a look? -I was down in the dumps when I had to say bye to my students due to the coronavirus lockdown. -I recommend my students clear the air as soon as possible to avoid misunderstandings. -My neighbour started to sing at 3 am. That put me off stride when I was sleeping. Is it possible to say "put me off stride from sth" as well? Hope you're OK! :) Love your lessons.
@englishbits
@englishbits 4 жыл бұрын
Hello Kevin! Thanks for your comment! Everything is correct, except one tiny mistake. I recommend my students TO clear the air (recommend + ing or that ... or sb to do sth). I wouldn't use to put sb off their stride with from. 😉

I have helped so far 1 million students to brush up on their English. I am proud of being an English teacher 👩‍🏫.

"down in the dumps" can be a synonym of "to have the blues" or "feel under the weather"?
@englishbits

To feel under the weather is when you feel a bit ill. The other two could be synonyms.

Down in the dumps- I learned that idiom thanks to Misterduncan. Without any reason. In German, there is a funny word to explain that( without any reason) Weltschmerz-world pain. I am sad because the world is cruel. You have a lovely life, but seeing injustice in your environment makes you feel down in the dumps.

La palabra это - significa es o it is en inglés.

At the end of your rope/ tether. How would you translate it in Spanish? Estar echo polvo,derrotado, por los suelos/ acabado. I am bleeding red ink due to my expensive holiday in Сан Петербург. Fall into place- todo ira bien, todo se arreglará. Is this phrase “ everything will turn out fine/well a synonym phrase?

@@englishbits You can use google adwords. It's a pity that there are no longer annotations on KZbin's videos. 4 or five years ago, you could write extra information in an annotations. Now, we have endscreens. In 2012 we could reply with a video in the commentary box. A videoresponse. What does youtube change all the time? 2020- KZbin studio 2022- Goodbye monetisation, and everyone has to pay to access KZbin.Just a guess, don't take it seriously. KZbin is unpredictable
