3:06 "pory" apart from meaning pores (and a plural of leek - por) can also be an augmentative of the word portki - trousers. And ściągają can mean tightening in terms of pores on the skin, but also to take down or take off. So "świetnie ściągają pory" can mean both "it tightens the pores brilliantly" OR "they're great at pulling down the trousers". The continuation "but you studied at the seminary, so this is no news for you", especially in the light of various pedophillia scandals worldwide, kind of suggests this was not a comment about the skin pores... 9:39 "Nurkuje" and "nurtuje" are similar words. "Nurtować" means to pervade, rankle and is often used in a phrase "nurtuje mnie pytanie" "one question I can't get out of my head". "nurokować" means "to dive". A similar thing is happening here with the words "zalanie" and "zaranie". "Zaranie" means dawn, but is archaic and now practically used only in the phrase "od zarania dziejów" - "since the dawn of time". "Zalanie" means "flooding", "inundation". Both in the sense of a flood outdoors and a situation where a pipe in your home bursts and your bathroom gets flooded. She uses the phrase "Nurkuje nas od zalania" which is presumably supposed to be "to pytanie nas nurtuje od zarania [dziejów]" (this question has been bothering us since the dawn [of time]), but asks instead "to pytanie nurkuje nas od zalania" (this question has been diving us since the flooding).

About zalanie: one can also "zalać ogóra" (flood a cucumber/pickle), meaning to get drunk, coined because a pickled cucumber (lactofermented to be exact, with brine not vinegar) is a common snack/chaser for vodka. There also is "zalać się" (flood yourself), which, apart from literal meaning translating better to "spill something on yourself", can mean to get drunk as well. One can also "zalać się łzami" (flood yourself with tears), but that's mostly reserved for poetic, flowery language.

As you can see, Rob, about 80% of Poles identify themselves as Catholics, including about half of those who are strongly involved in it, practicing it... which does not prevent us from mocking representatives of the Catholic Church (because some of them perform their ministry poorly and transgress the law and ethics). This is a very specific sense of Catholicism. Also, as you can see, there is complete freedom of expression in Poland - everyone can criticize anyone, including various institutions, e.g. government, prime minister or president including.

The "Dzidek" part is kind of like "I am Groot". Dzidek is a chav/gopnik type character (in Poland called: dresiarz/dres), not very smart. Just like Groot. Poles also used to have the "Sunday hours" but due to some legislative bs most stores and large markets are now closed on most Sundays.

more content for your amazing videos : André Citroën acquired the design for the herringbone (chevron-shaped) gear from a patent that was based on an idea he encountered during his visit to Poland. The story often told is that he was inspired by seeing a wooden chevron-shaped gear used in a Polish mill. This inspiration led him to see the potential for using such a design in automotive applications for its smooth operation and reduced noise. Georges Kégresse, on the other hand, was a French engineer who worked with Citroën on various projects, most notably on developing the half-track vehicle systems (the Kégresse track), but he was not involved in the invention or the development of the herringbone gear that inspired Citroën's logo. To directly address your question: The inspiration for the chevron gear design, which became a hallmark of Citroën automobiles and the basis for its logo, came from André Citroën's observation in Poland, and not directly from Georges Kégresse. Citroën then utilized this concept in his automotive manufacturing processes, symbolizing the brand with the double chevron logo that reflects this gear pattern.

Not a very good one for someone that doesn't know polish very well, despite Ola's great efforts it appears that for Rob who had to read the explanations most of the time it was breaking the immersion and he couldn't focus on what was going on. There's a lot of word-play here, and apart from that, maybe it's a personal taste, but I think it's not the best one from Neonówka with Wanda character in, and maybe some other ones would work better. People laughing so much at some moments when there was nothing THAT funny I would say mainly is a consequence of the fact that Wanda's character is very characteristic and "she" is very well known and liked amongst people who watch polish cabaret. Huge thanks to Rob for doing all this, great to see someone from abroad wants to watch it and enjoys it as a lot of us do too :)

03:05 That's another word play. "Świetnie ściągają pory" literally means "It tightens the pores brilliantly", but it can also mean "It takes off your pants quickly" ("pory/portki" = "pants"), hence the allusion about the seminary. 07:04 As every Pokémon does :) 07:37 "Promile" (per milles) is also a metaphor for alcoholic beverages or getting drunk, because the content of alcohol in exhausted air is measured in per milles. 10:42 Yeah, like pretty much every language. Languages use metaphors to convey meanings that are too abstract or hard to express with words, by mapping them onto something more tangible and concrete that everyone is familiar with from they everyday experience. George Lakoff wrote a couple of books about this phenomenon. 11:59 Hahah that's pretty much the same trick I use to make the priest leave sooner :D I ask him difficult questions about the stuff from the Bible. Like, for example: If Adam and Eve were the first and only people on Earth, and they had only two sons, Cain and Abel, and then Cain killed Abel, when where did the later people come from? (Eve was the only woman back then, and Adam and Cain were the only men, so… you know the deal… :J ). Or why does the Bible quote rather long lifetimes for the entire lineage from Adam to Abraham? There's quite a lot of people from back then quotet to live 800…900 years or more (the record holder being Metushelah) It's funny to see them struggle with those questions, either contradicting the laws of physics and common sense (e.g. by saying that the length of the year must have been shorter back then, which would mean that the Earth was orbiting the Sun on a much more closer orbit :D ), or contradicting the Bible altogether (by saying that "it's just metaphors and parables, and we shouldn't be taking it too seriously) :D 13:55 Yeah, and that's the whole problem :q

It tightens the pores, double meaning: It excellent removes the trousers (pory, portki - slang = trousers) (He added but you have been in seminary so you know how it is - a joke related to the homosexual behavior of the priests).

I admit I didn't read the comments so maybe someone already brought this up: wanted to add to translation: 9:38 - she sayin "nurkuje" - "diving" (in water) but this is misspoke (like she doesn''t know polish words - which is part of the comedy), the correct word is "nurtuje" - "curious" :) second part is "od zalania" - this is not down of but "from pouring a liquids in" - meaning "to make pregnant" :), there's also second side to this one: in this context "od zarania" is probably related to "from the dawn of time". Thanks Rob and the lady who translates for the movie :)

This skit is also a manifestation of the speed of secularization of Polish society. Until recently, no one would have dared to show something like this in public. Nowadays, even older people are turning away from the Church (e.g. my parents, which until recently seemed impossible). However, we often hear that the majority of Poles are Catholics - yes, but only formally, and our alleged religiosity is rather a habit and attachment to tradition. To sum up - the Catholic Church in Poland has probably never been in such a bad condition as it is now and I cannot hide my satisfaction about it. As for the reasons, it's a longer question, but more or less the same as in Ireland, for example. Btw - the film "Clergy" has a lot of merit here, but probably even more thanks to the documentary film by the Sekielski brothers showing the problem of pedophilia in the Polish Catholic Church (it was a shock for many people, especially the older ones)
