It's been said before and these girls themselves LITERALLY in like every interview have mentioned that they are inspired by other western girl groups. The term "global" has also been used as another way to describe the success of a girl group. It's a different level of fame from girl groups who are more popular locally and It's nothing new and it's not as fancy as people think it is, it's a HUGE deal though. (Btw The Pussycat Dolls, The Spice Girls and Blackpink count as global girl groups.) Going mainstream in many countries/continents is also a requirement to count as a "global girl group". That being said, they're still an American girl group (because they're based in LA and are making American-type songs and following western visual aesthetics), their mission however is to go global and I'm pretty sure it's working so far.
