Durness - a wonderfull place. I was there a few years ago. I simply loved the empty single track roads. 3.5 hours of driving and we didn't see a single car 🤗

I done the nc500 early july, went to smoo cave myself, love the north/west coast! Was phenomenal trip. We hit some beautiful weather on the evenings, done a few nights out in the hammock, few in the van.

The best of the NC500 doesn't start until you turn south off the north coast. Many years since I went to Clachtoll, but from there south its awe inspiring.

OK, I see now. The headline reads water in cave and the photo made me think she had been sucked under or something ominous. 12:46. Glad it did not. Come to the States, any part of it now-a-days it seems and be hot. Start in New Orleans and travel up HWY #61 The Blues Highway, all the way to The Windy City, The Gateway City, or The Home of Elvis, Whichever is better suited to your plans. Or you could start up North and head South. Either way it will be hot and humid. Thanks again.

If you do get a roll out awning, don't tie your dog to the van anywhere near the legs where he/she can get tangled up if he sees a rabbit. New legs are expensive and it causes matrimonial discord the second time that it happens. Don't ask me how I know this. I love Scotland, I've lost count of the number of times that we have had a beautiful, massive beach all to ourselves. Set one corner of your awning to be slightly lower than the others so that the rain runs off and doesn't pool on top.

I did the NC500 last month and the North Coast section from Wick to Sango (I also stayed in Sango Sands, lovely campsite) was easily my favourite section of the whole route, helped that it was followed by 2 days of torrential rain that soured the West Coast section for me!

Clactnoll beach and campsitecis brilliant. we stayed there for a week in May, sea kayaking around the area. The campsite facilities are great and they have an ensuing shower room too...😊 Enjoy!
