Hi Gill, I'm from Brazil and here we have an expression similar to "His bark is worse than his bite." "Cão que ladra não morde." Thank you for your time teaching us.🥰❤️👏🏻

Your accent is so clear that I can hear and understand every single word. Your pace is slow enough as well. I wish every English speaker in this world could speak English as clearly and slowly as you do. I wonder if your pace and your accent are still the same as when you talk to your family, your friends, your collegues, ect. Or just on videos like this only in order that English learner can follow? If it's just the same on videos and in real life, that's a good news for me. If that's not the case, I feel sorry for me again and again because my great effort of learning English is something like a pinch of salt put into a huge lake. People speak too fast, especially young people. Anyhow, thanks Jill a lot for giving us some very very clear explanation, as clear as the day.

Lovely lesson. I believe "Bite the bullet" means "endure discomfort". When soldiers in the 19th century needed to have limbs amputated, but did not have anesthesia available, they would bite on something soft during the procedure. Without something soft to bite on, a soldier would cleanch his jaw so tight from pain that he could break his own teeth. Bullets were readily available on a battlefield, and made of soft lead, so that's what soldiers often bit on.
