@clarkkirkendall38656 жыл бұрын
Once I started to learn Spanish, I started to realize that language follows general rules and mechanics. Now I think differently to myself in my native language, English. I think in compartmentalized steps that add up to make speech. The steps are basically parts in grammar like nouns, verbs, reflexive verbs (esconderme= hide MYSELF), past participles (the -ed ending on words; vivido=lived) infinitives (comer=to eat/eating) personal pronouns (la mujer= the [female] lady), tenses such as the indicative ( yo como= I eat) preterite (comiste= you ATE), imperfect (yo comía= I was eating / I ate [over a period of time continuously]) conditional (yo comería [si]= I WOULD eat [if], Progressive (the -ing ending in English; corriendo= running), future (comere= I will eat) and the most infusing of all tenses being the subjunctive (Espero que VAYAS conmigo [instead of ‘espero que conmigo’]=I wish that you go with me). It’s The most difficult tense because we rarely differentiate between in English. The difference here in English is the same as the word “go” having the tense “goes” if I’m not mistaken. My suggestion is to at least try to learn another language as you will understand your own language in more clear steps, which will improve your skills in explaining things in different complex ways.

Nice. You are precise but also courteous and friendly. However, "enjoy" is not usually a reflexive verb, it's a transitive verb. I could say I enjoyed the meal, the movie, the concert, etc. Come to think of it, for a new speaker "I enjoyed myself" must seem like a rather strange thing to say.

@mrsenpaihd74858 жыл бұрын
because you are speaking about a specific time. jk. I don't even know.
@neerusuri29207 жыл бұрын
Robert Kriska coz in first three examples u are talking about "a specific time" and "have a nice time" is a quote which is prevalent from late 1600s and the people of that time didn't use to bother about grammar...
@johneric017 жыл бұрын
The Article 'A' was needed on your examples as to define a singular, specific use of time. As for the last example in the video, time there is used on its uncountable form. Did you have a nice time? (The speaker may talk about one certain point or event like a party or concert) Do you have free time? (The speaker is referring to an unspecified length of time like minutes or hours). Hope this helps :)
@pj0815057 жыл бұрын
Robert Kriska that's time as in an event or an activity, e.g. one day or one step at a time...
@yelomijo7 жыл бұрын
Robert Kriska The ''time'' you are talking about is not the ''time'' she is. In your cases, ''time'' refers to ''occasion'', not to time as in minutes and days. ''I had a nice time'' could be said as ''I had a nice evening''. ''I have free time'' refers to minutes, etc. could be said as ''I have a couple hours'', etc. Two whole different concepts sharing the same term. Hope you get me.

@Ankitsingh-oo9vx5 жыл бұрын
'Now' defines an instant time period, thereby we may use A in the above sentence of yours ( I presume)
@janlambert51284 жыл бұрын
Time can be either an uncountable noun or a countable noun. When we talk about free time, how much time we have, how long something takes, we are using the uncountable noun. In your statement, ‘Now is a good time’, time takes on the meaning of moment or occasion, and has become a countable noun e.g. ‘Now is a good moment’ or ‘I have been there five times’. Hope this helps 😉

As an English speaker, I had gotten to number 7 and I was sweating because I couldn't figure out what was wrong lol Also, for the last example, I always thought of "free time" as plural. So even though I wouldn't use "a free time" I often use "some free time" since "some" is an indefinite pronoun.

As a UK English speaker, it's very odd to read someone say they are an 'English' speaker and then use 'gotten' (to us, a VERY American word). I think we're reaching the point with the growing difference between your language and mine where it would help learners if we call one 'English' and the other 'American'!

@paulhaynes8045 gotten I think is the past participle of got. By using perfect aspect why not.I want just to know.
