Before making the decision to purchase an Engwe e-bike, I feel it's important to share my personal experience with the company and their product. I bought my Engwe e-bike in March 2023, and within a short span of time, I ran into technical issues with the bike. When I reached out to Engwe's customer service for assistance, the response time was far from satisfactory. Although I understand that troubleshooting can be a complex process, their response took a full 24 hours each time. Moreover, I was asked to conduct a series of tests on my own, which included using a multimeter to check the battery and the charger, and then recording a video of the process to send to them. After complying with their requirements, I had to wait another two days for their next response. The entire process has been quite frustrating and time-consuming, and it is still ongoing. Based on my experience, I have concerns about the efficiency of Engwe's customer support, as well as the reliability of their e-bikes. As a consumer, I believe we deserve products that function as promised and customer service that is prompt and effective. Unfortunately, in my experience, Engwe has fallen short in these aspects. While this is just my personal experience, and others may have had different ones, I feel it's essential to share it for the sake of potential customers. I advise thoroughly researching and considering other options before deciding to purchase an Engwe e-bike."

Top report David. I feel like I am always attracting bad luck over the years with all the multiple "gadgets" I purchase, and believe me, I am into everything that is released these days, I live for technical gadgets which these eBikes fall into the category of. After hearing your report, and realising how this company works, it reminds me of RealSimGear (flight sim device company) who asked me to do similar tests even after I had sent them videos with 100% proof I could not have been faking my "report of major issues" with one of their products. This M20 maybe fine if received by a customer as working 100%, but it sure does sound like Engwe just want to make ££££££'s from their admittedly "fine as long as there are no defects" products, but they sure seem to not have anything setup at their end to support the high paying customers in terms of an instant (ish) response system to customers with problems they did NOT pay £1000 or so to have to endure. Again, brilliant write up from you David.

To add to what you said,I am in the uk and the battery and charger didn,t last 2 months. I had heard about their customer service taking a while and hoped nothing would go wrong lol. I Have had a whole list of issues, Brakes, regen, chain jumps as front crank out of line with the chain, rear shocker comes loose, seat comes loose teeth worn away. It is off the road as waiting for charger and I fear also will be needing a battery. Luckily I had a multimeter and although I wasn't keen to poke about a lithium battery it was the only way forward. I did expect a little more than 2 months for nearly 1300 quid.

The Engine Pro has the USB port at the bottom of the display under a rubber cover. You can also change the PAS levels from 3 upto 9 levels plus set the individual power levels % for each step. If you hold the ON button down when the display is off then the password screen comes up. Enter "1212" to open the controller and cycling parameter advance menu. The Engine Pro has a 23A controller, but SPORT mode is set to 20A from the factory. I set mine to 21A for 1008w to the motor instead of 960w at 20A from the factory.

@That Story, I explained how to get into the advance menu in my comment. Turn the key to the ON position, Hold the ON button down for about 5 seconds until the Password screen comes on. Enter "1212" using the up/down and enter buttons. That should bring you to the advance settings menu for the controller and cycling parameters. In the controller settings menu you can scroll down to the mode (eco, normal, sport) and it will show the Amp setting for each mode 10a eco, 15a normal, 20a sport. You can change the Amp level for each of these individually. 20A to 21A isn't much of a difference, but since the controller itself is rated at 23A, that might be the highest you can set it. That would be 1100w to the motor. The Amp setting on the display can go up to 60A, but that not do anything or might fry the controller itself. Hope this helps.

They got my money and I got nothing but stress. I would recommend another company that has descent customer service. They should have sent a replacement immediately but they seem to think FedEx mess up is on the customer as they wait to get the damaged one back before they think about doing anything. So instead of 4-5 days delivery, I'll be lucky to get it in 3 weeks, if I even get it, as they are ghosting me. Be ware of this shady company.

Here's my 18 month review of the Engine Pro. I ride it to work every day. On and off road. Some parts are very bumpy and muddy through a field and towpath. I've really put it through its paces. Not jumping and stuff, just on and off road commute. Done 2200 mile so far. Rode in all conditions +40c heat to -14c freezing. The positives: It looks good. The format of the bike is great. It fits on the back of my boat folded. The fat tyres have coped very well with loose gravel, mud, snow, ice. It's really fun to ride and I would love this bike if it wasn't for... The negatives: It's very cheap. The range is about 10 miles. The battery power sags allot after 5 miles and the SOC % reading is a joke. I need to charge it every day and it takes about 4 hours. Electrically it is cheap. I just noticed one of the pins for the rear hub motor is starting to melt the connector. This means it's drawing too much power for the wiring and will likely fail soon. But even then the power of the bike is weak. (it feels amazing the first few times you ride it, but quickly feels underwhelming after a bit). I have the 500W version and it puts out 750W continuously using the throttle. It is not enough power and accelerates pretty slowly. It only goes 21mph unless down hill, then the top speed is 25mph. That is the absolute maximum you can go, as over that speed the motor works against you. You can only pedal upto 21mph, over that the wheel is turning too fast for the sprocket gear and you just ghost pedal. The power levels are a joke. All they do is cap your speed. So for example P1 will deliver 750W up to 5mph then nothing. While P5 will deliver the same 750W up until 21mph. The cadence sensing pedal assist will again just dump the full wattage if you turn the pedals. No proportional power delivery unless you use the thumb throttle and that is very finicky. The eco / sport modes have no discernible difference. None. It's just full power or nothing, capping at 21mph, which leads to a very jerky (but fun) ride. Mechanically it is very cheap. The folding mechanism is solid though. The breaks are cheap and you can't refill the hydraulic fluid properly (just at the top). They leaked after 12 months so have been replaced. The mudguards! arrghh! They are noisy and fail constantly, as in fall off. The issue is the rear guard is mounted on two different articulating points, which move in relation to each other as the suspension deflects. This flexes the steel, fatiguing it and causing it to snap. I have welded brackets, used hinges, fabricated mounting plates just to name a few solutions. Have just replace them with aluminium ones with 7 additional bolts, 4mm thick fabbed aluminium mounting plates, 2 stays, rubber dampeners and jubilee clips. We'll see how long they last (my builds are good btw). Also the mudguards are exactly the same width as the tyres, and only cover one third of the circumference, so you get muddy even with them. The head set is starting to go now after 18 months, with some creaky noises. Maybe just needs new bearings. The rear suspension is shoddy. It used nylon bushings instead of bearings and they failed almost immediately so have been replaced with proper rifle bearings. The pivot points for the rear suspension aren't made correctly. Hard to explain but the crossbeam is slightly to short (or recess is slightly to shallow), meaning you cant tighten the bolts up enough. This means you either have them working loose constantly, or in my case, you use thread lock to keep them in place but with a tiny (tiny) bit of play. Over time this play has worn the suspension mounting point and it's now gone floppy. Hard to explain, it's just bad and is staring to fail. Obviously if the rear suspension mechanism does fail it could be quite dangerous. The crank arms are soft as butter and the pedals have stripped out. The pedals are also worn loose and floppy. The lights are rubbish. The cadence sensor fails if mud or debris gets in it, meaning the motor cuts out and it's throttle only until you clear it. The bearings in the front wheel failed and replaced. The rear hub motor seems ok, but as the ring gear of the planetary gear system is cut straight into the wheel itself, if it strips you will need a whole new wheel/motor. The cassette gears are cheap and floppy. The chain is sooo long/loose and falls of if it gets too bumpy. The gear shift lever doesn't register position anymore, nor dose it return so you need to pull it back. I could probably think of more issues. You get the idea. Really this bike is very cheaply made. It looked amazing when new. Felt great to ride when new. After 6 months things were starting to break. 12 months and it's needing a few £100 to keep it going. And now at 18 months i'm getting ready to let it die. It's just not well made. To be clear, I ride this bike every day down some dirt tracks and it needs to be rugged. If you are only going to ride it occasionally then it may be ok (i would get the hard tail version though). Lots of people ask me about it. I cannot recommend it due to cheapness. I've used it hard, and it's not a work horse. Notice how all the reviews are shiny new bikes with some sort of money off promotion? This is my real world experience. If Specialized or Cannondale or someone made a good quality bike in this format; folding, 20x4" wheel, it would be amazing (and expensive). What we have here though is a cheap, fun, junk bike that will barely get you two years commuting. Having done it, I wouldn't again.

Thanks for your experiences 👍 has your engine pro never gone 28+ mph or more than 10miles range?
@TW0T0M
@TW0T0M Жыл бұрын
@@e-VRC Thanks for making the vid :) I' don't think I've ever had 28mph out of it. The most I get is about 25 (assuming the speedometer is accurate). There is a hill I go down on my commute and no matter how hard I peddle, how heavy my load is, how strong the wind is - it wont go faster than about 25 (ish). Even if you peddle like the clappers you can feel the resistance in the motor working against you at that speed. Like you are now peddling faster than the electromagnets are changing poles, and the magnets are holding you back rather than propelling you forward. RE range. I've never rode it until empty so don't really know. I probably do about 8 miles in a day, some hills and some rough terrain, and it probably uses 66% of the battery. I do use the throttle allot though. The battery hasn't noticeably lost capacity. Also forgot to mention in my review... I fold and unfold it every day, and the folding mechanism has held up well.

@TW0T0M odd... it sounds like a different bike. I wonder if you got a dodgy one. 100kgs here and it gets me close to 30 with little effort and speed was fine until very low battery. Not disputing your findings of course. Just wondering if you fell foul of inconsistent quality control.

@@e-VRC It's possible I got a dud but I don't think that's the case. I was looking for defects from day one and I didn't notice any of these problems when I first got it. Infact I thought it was amazing. It's only after spending allot of time with it I've noticed these issues. How many miles have you done on it? Also I *think* I have the wheel diameter set to 20" on the computer, and that is giving me an accurate speed. Can't be sure though. It felt fast when I first got it. Other people tell me it looks fast. But now it feels sloooow so maybe I just got used to the speed xD Definitely notice the drop in voltage when the battery is tired though.

Yeah my main complaint from my review were the creaks and clangs but it's great. Altus isn't really much better than Tourney I would have really been upset if it came with mechanical brakes though. n00b question - how do you maintain these bikes? most normal bike shops probably wouldn't take these for repairs, right?
@e-VRC
@e-VRC 10 ай бұрын
Depends what repair is needed. Brakes, gears, chain are the same as what you'd get on any bikes. When it comes to electronics, they could easily repair if they had the parts. E.g. if engwe for example sent you a new controller to replace a faulty one. Sometimes in this case a local escooter repair shop might be better. I think local bike shops turn away these bikes to stop people buying them.

On my Engine Pro the back wheel makes a rattle noise and doesn't spin freely like the EP-2. Is yours the same? I'm not sure if it's because of the regen braking or I have a dodgy wheel. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes to the second question. The regen is causing that so that's normal. As for the rattling. Check my review as I talk about rattling maybe it's the same. Some people tightened things up to fix it.

I find the m20 really comfortable. More so than the engine. But the engine is easier if you're pedalling. Spine wise inhave no idea and probably depends on how tall you are. The seat can be raised on the engine so it's probably better for taller riders. But the m20 seat is much nicer.

Hey. I've not had that bike so I'm really not sure. However they do tend to fit in a similar way. Having said that the engwe ep2 pro mudguards are different to the engine pro mudguards. They fit but you have to bend or un bend the arms. Take a close look at both bikes. Takr note if the arms fit in the same way and roughly at the same place. And does the top of the mudguard fit in a similar place. If so then there's a good chance you.can make them fit. But it's not certain.

Note to all if like me you live in a hilly part of the uk then don't even think about wasting your money on a 250w bike. The laws are based on level ground. I find riding up hill against the ever present coastal winds that 750w is not even enough power and have to pedal also in 4th gear. So do you obey the law or get to the top of the hill ? Which is the sole reason I wanted an ebike !!!!!!

Anyone here that bought a ENGWE M20 have problems with the Display. I programed everything except the Power-On password. Rode the bike around town and it was fine. I wanted a password on it to keep the wife off of it. Scene P8 is for the password setting. Now the P8 screen won't take my PW. When you power up the displays lights up then switches to the P8 screen and won't take my PW. So in short the bike is dead. I tried to set back to factory settings (Holed Power and + buttons at the same time), nothing just P8 screen. I even unplug the control box hoping to reboot it, nothing just a P8 screen. Called the company and they said, "Send order number , where you bought and a video of the problem". Is there anyone who has the same problem. Thanks

Now no one is responding to me.
