As a survivor of abuse I really adore Rick’s body language and the softness in his voice towards Jessie, it was so sweet. He lowered his own posture to her level and his hand/arm gestures were timid and cautious because she’s a DV survivor. 🥺 It’s very likely that he had dealt with DV incidents before when he was a cop, this probably wasn’t his first interaction with an abuse victim. But he wasn’t just saying those things to her as a cop, he was also trying to help her out as a friend. He still executes traits of his previous identity as an officer while also being a compassionate friend & leader. Andy’s such a fantastic actor.

I've never commented on one of your videos before but I need to tell you this: As someone who has a handful of mental health issues, including not understanding why I feel the way I do sometimes, your videos and analyses have really helped me to understand what emotion I'm feeling at the time. Example: Earlier today, I caught myself fidgeting with my hands and touching my face a lot. This helped me realize that I was dealing with a lot of stress, so I distanced myself so that I could calm down better. You have also helped me realize that some people in my life were abusing and lying to me. And it's not like, a paranoia thing. When I confronted them about it, they folded and just went into full blame mode. So please, you might not see it, but you're helping people with these videos too. Don't ever stop. Also that ghost hunting video was pretty sick.

Andrew Lincoln, despite never having served in LE, does a very good job portraying the way in which a Deputy Sheriff responds to situations like these. it's obvious this isn't Rick's first time dealing with a domestic abuser, even though it is Andrew Lincoln's. amazing acting as usual from TWD.

You really need to hand it to Rick. He faces Pete, a person larger than himself, gives him multiple warnings, _even after Pete assaults him_ Rick is still willing to negotiate. I see what you mean, but you have to take in consideration, that Rick knows, or atleast thinks that in case of physical escalation, he will be the victor, therefor reinforcing his confidence in standing his ground. Rick doesn't feel any real fear, nor does he feel threatened by Pete's behavior and attempts to be intimidating. The way i know Rick, the only 2 reasons he tries to deescalate the situation are for her sake, not to worsen the relationship and confrontation between the 3 of them and on the other hand, as an (ex)police officer having the moral obligation to control his feelings, not getting himself provoked that easy and basically behaving more calm, collected because as an officer he was/is held to an higher standard than mere human emotional behaviour. "In nature" the person or animal that feels superior in case of escalation would not back down like him, unless the aggressor succeeds in his mindgames... Its all about mindgames like causing fear, which Pete is trying, and confidence about winning the physical fight if the situation should escalate, like being bigger, stronger, doing some sort of martial arts or having a weapon... Ricks behavior of standing his ground would be more brave, if he actually considered himself to be inferior and either fearing or knowing that he may loose an fight, which he doesnt. Just to clarify, im not disagreeing, just wanted to add to your comment. I have high respect for ("superior")people who can and willingly stay calm in an situation like this...
