Hi Dewayne, I just wanted to drop a note! Most people don't realize how difficult it is to speak and articulate on a topic for an 11 minute video - not to mention with no cuts or edits. You're doing a fantastic job with all these videos, and creating an online community around Dry Creek Wrangler School. You feel like an older father figure, talking about important life lessons and passing those along to the younger generation (like me!). Don't ever stop teaching - you're far too valuable of a resource for people like me. Thank you!

This dude wants to correct someone else on how to their name lol. He reads your whole post and his brain goes directly to trying to correct you to make himself feel better. He doesn’t comment on your positive outlook or anything along the lines of cigars, nope he sees an opportunity to belittle someone and goes directly for it. That’s the kind of ho-ness that you’re born with.

I had not thought of cigars until i stumbled onto your channel. I watched you smoke a cigar and discussed it. I thought “that looks good”. Then I recalled that a coworker gave me a humidor 12 years back when I was retiring. I rummaged around and found it. Then conditioned it and went to the local cigar store. I bought 2 Macanudo Cafe cigars. Later I barbecued some pork ribs and fries. Then later sat on my patio with my cigar and 2 fingers of Jack Daniels. What a great experience. Solitude, classical music, blue sky turning orange with the sunset and a thought of gratitude that you opened a door to a new experience. I won’t be anything but an occasional smoker but I will enjoy each experience like the first one.

Dewayne - a friend of mine sent me a link to your Video saying you gave me a "Shout Out" - first off, thank you. And yes, you are 100% right, almost all cigar smokers can not identify individual flavors and it is not necessary in anyway whatsoever to be able to do so. Often times many of the people who do use overly descriptive terms are really parroting what others have said. As a lifelong tobacco buyer, blender, factory operator and brand owner, I can tell that those of us on the actual growing and manufacturing side do not typically use this type of terminology between ourselves when describing leaf or cigars, BUT we do when trying to explain experiences to consumers. Your coffee analogy was spot on btw. I use a very simple "rule of thumb" when working leaf and on cigars: Does it make my palate moist as I smoke it? Flavors I enjoy make me drool, flavors I don't make my mouth dry - so if a cigar doesn't make my palate moist, separate of all the other factors including "raisins and chocolate", ratings, other's advice it simply is not a good cigar for me. I just want to say "thank you" for sharing your enjoyment of fine handmade cigars with you audience. I think a lot of folks if they had the opportunity to be introduced to good cigars would find it a really great way to relax and add enjoyment to their lives. Forces you to slow down a little and appreciate life's blessings. ps: Yes, I know a lot about tobacco, but I don't know d*ck about horses. Guess I gotta browse some of these videos...

If anyone ask why I smoke cigars, I will use your quote “Forces you to slow down” It really does, amid constant connectivity and information overload, taking a moment to slow down allows for introspection, mindfulness, and a break from the hustle. It promotes well-being, reduces stress, and enables a deeper appreciation of the present moment.

It's more of a mindset than a feeling any substance can give you. For me I like the calming effect tobacco can give, but too much can elevate heart rate and blood pressure increasing anxiousness. Take a breather and relax. Only smoke when you're not doing anything. It's not for everybody though. I enjoy smoking but not cigarettes. It can be a nasty habit.

I’ve been a smoker since I was 9 years old I’m 34 now. Smoked my first Cigar at 10 years old. I’ve been off and on but I am addicted to cigarettes and I’m not proud of it at all. Cigars were always different for me and I only smoke them when I’m in the mood. Cigarettes will kill you Cigars will make you live longer. My Cuban grandfather puffed Habanos his whole life until he had to get a throat tumor cut out of his throat. He died at 98 years old. It’s all about what you enjoy as a man. Nothing in life is guaranteed so enjoy how your feeling in the moment cause tomorrow could be totally different

Definitely agree with you on this man. The picking out of every note within cigars along with whiskeys comes off as sort of pretentious. I enjoy a good quality cigar but I don’t over analyze every component within it. I relax and unwind after a long day with a nice stoogie to clear my mind.

You are absolutely correct about about Richness and strength being two separate things. I remember I was TDY in Germany back about '''83 maybe '84 (i spent three years there from '79 to '82 at Ramstein AB) and the boss and I were dining on the economy for every meal because the rate at that time as running 3 Marks to a Dollar making it affordable. We would have a good meal then sit back and drink some Hennessey along with a good cappucino or maybe an Espresso. Now normal everyday coffee in Germany was what i would call strong. It was just strong and rich but that was two different things. I found out that back in the states that most Americans think Strong coffee is dumping a whole no. 10 can of Maxwell into the basket. Even though the espresso or cappucino was strong in Germany it had a beautiful rich flavor that made it enjoyable. Excuse me while I run down to the liquor store and buy another bottle of Hennessey to go with this cigar! Like you I cannot detect the little nuances in the cigars I smoke but I either enjoy it or I don't. but I do know I like a good Maduro, yet I can enjoy a Conneticut SHade grown wrapper on a good Dominican at times. Love an Arturo Fuente specially a Hemmingway Short Story but I also enjoy a good Bill Finck Travis Club Senator as well. I usually refer a good bodied Nicuragan with a Maduro Wrapper. Heck, they are all great cigars! Wish I had that Perdomo 6X60 you are smoking! But that's Okay! You enjoy it for me! Cold in the Hill country tonight, reminds me of the morning I woke up at 0600 in the morning out at the State Natural area out in Bandera and it was showing 4 degrees on the Thermometer on my Ford Truck!

Sir, I’ve just discovered your channel today via one of those KZbin random recommendations. I’m loving it all! And here’s the thing: I’ve been retired since 2014 and have still not learned the real art of chilling and letting go and slowing down and just enjoying and counting the blessings in life. Some other time I’ll maybe tell you about how I got into cigars (still a novice), but you’re right when you say that they’re a great way to zone out and relax. Except your videos are now tutoring me in how to do it right and I’m so grateful to you for this. Now, this particular video has taught me something else and that is that I no longer need to feel ashamed or doubt myself because I don’t get the “toasted coconut, cedar wood, Ecuadorean roast chocolate, pine nuts, wild blackberries” or whatever that the big aficionados describe. I either enjoy it or I don’t. But now I know that that’s ok. Tell you what. I’m taking you (on my iPad) the next fine evening and I’m going to sit under the trees at the back of my house and light up a Por Larranaga, with a Scotch, and just enjoy a few of your chats. I love your wisdom and your homespun honesty. You’re great company. Thank you for all you’re doing. It’s greatly appreciated.

Love your videos! People always ask me why i smoke cigars. . " How can you do that to your body, all that smoke!" Most people think it's the same as smoking a cigarette and it's not even close. I hate cigarettes. Cigarettes have dozens of harsh chemicals put in them and cigars are 100% natural and no harsh chemicals, plus you don't inhale. But the main reason i tell people why I enjoy cigars is because it forces me to stop and slow down for 45 minutes to an hour and just relax. Our lives now days is go-go-go, need to look at my phone, need to call this guy or text this gal, or run this errand, or this or that. Smoking a cigar is my meditation, and if you can do it around a fire with a good bourbon or scotch and with good company than brother your livin the high life!

Just lit up a Perdomo 20th anniversary moduro as well and happened across this video immediately! Couldn't have worked out any better

Did anyone else try to predict what his voice would sound like and after hearing the deep voice, felt relived that it matched what you expected? Lol

Great video! The analogy to Maxwell House ought to be standard watching for cigar smokers, especially those like me who after a few years are still developing their palate. I am definitely glad to hear someone say they group their cigars into “like/don’t like.” I can definitely pick up certain flavors, and there are cigars I used to not enjoy that I truly appreciate now.

🎯 I was doing EXACTLY what you were saying until I realized I can’t distinguish all of those flavors. Then I went with like or dislike. My enjoyment increased immensely!

I enjoy what I like, because I enjoy what I do. There are many paths to a correct way.

And this definitely goes for pipe tobaccos as well. There are so many great pipe tobaccos I smoke and my pallet isn’t refined to give a detailed description but I know what I like. I can actually find a way to appreciate any pipe or cigar.

I’m smoking a Don Rafael Gold right now. It’s not fancy or expensive. But I really enjoy this one. I sat outside tonight, relaxing and talking with my son and had a nice smoke. That’s living.

I am a brother that doesn't live in that Shangri-la of the acute palate. However I find that a distinct advantage, I never have worry that I'm not getting the "Burnt Rice Krispy" notes! thank God !! I'm either happy with a cigar or else just mildly disappointed, but never dissatisfied. 👍☘
