7w8 ENFP here also. I feel like VR would be so helpful for 7's and ENFP's to get a sense of adventure and new experiences. Like when Tom was speaking about all the things we could be doing at 4:24 such as exploring an area or doing adventurous activities. VR google street view exploring and VR games that emulate real-life activities would be great to fill this desire for excitement, even on a day at home with nothing fun planned. Great video!

Thanks so much. I used to think I was a type 9 because I do want peace and for the people around me to do well, but actually I'm 7w6, that makes so much more sense now. SO MUCH sense. "Why are we sitting here doing nothing?" Yes, totally.

That was so helpful! The struggles and strengths of sevens really speak to me, but I've always been thrown by descriptions like "planners" (sounds way too strategic and detailed) or "fun squad" (I can be decidedly unfun when required to do something tedious). Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts!

I'm new to this whole concept. I tested 7 with a VERY strong 8 and very low 6. Its made it easy to build a business andcearning money is almost effortless...but money only means more fun life experiences...bring on the Rollercoasters... and I only go with an express pass! I hate calenders but use them just so I can know what month it is. I'm not afraid to look inside myself with a realistic eye to what needs to change and see potential in others that they may not see in themselves. People often come to me to ask advice. I'm very much a realist and can be blunt but never to hurt anothers feeling. I hate to change what I'm into because "times up". I'm always creating and always say...everything I need is within arms reach and can usually prove that true. Ideas flow easily. I hate fishing...but I WANT to like it because it looks peaceful. I like to see all options before choosing. I do finish tasks but trained myself to enjoy the finishline. Being a 7w8 is sometimes hard! 😃

Well Tom, for the last year I thought I was a 3w2. But you have helped me realize (in this video) that I am a 7w8. Huge win (but reframing away from the existential crisis this is creating hahahahah). Thank you for helping us become more present to life, you are definitely at the inspriting levels of the type 7. Distinction: I have created lots of achievements in life, today I realized they have been created to avoid bordom and chase the new experiences of life rather than for the self image! HUGE. Thank you x 1000000

Same lol. I typed for years as SP 3w4 bc of this. I thought that doing/researching/finishing a lot of things during the day made me 3, but I realized that I was doing it to avoid boredom. 8 and 3 are similar to each other in certain aspects, so it is understandable that we are mistyped as 3.

Thank you so much for this beautiful, spot on, insightful, compassionate and inspiring sharing. I just watched it with my beautiful, yet living as a very unhealthy 7, ENFP, 30 year old son. Beyond recognizable. It brought tears to my eyes and we laughed, as well. Supporting him in remembering/returning to/cultivating his healthy 7 Self. btw: my partner, well he is a 7, wing 8 ENFJ. Fortunately, he has evolved and grown into a wonderful and healthy version of himself. And, I'm the 9, wing 1/INFP of the family, doing my best to find my way in the world. Again, thank you for the gifts, joy and inspiration you bring into the world. 😃

haha, you on the 12th minute saying about 7ns, I found your videos about Enneagram about 15 days ago, and since then I decided to watch your whole playlist about me the 7 type, 3 more videos to go after this one. Thank you very much for making these videos, you truly made me realize why things happen the way they do with me, as well as a special thank you for showing the good things in me, which helped me understand my self-worth and see value in my self as a being, that was difficult for me to see, and I used to be very depressed because of it. = one of the reasons is me being an ESFP and my brother being an INTJ on Bricks Myers. haha. - once more thank you for your time sharing this free helpful material, and thanks for lifting up the mood in your videos, like this 12th - minute scene.

Hi Dr. Tom, I am a SX/SP 7w6 who is dating a SP/SX 4w5. I avoided the enneagram for over 2 years, because my girlfriend read off what the 7 description was, and every single word struck me to the core. I was such an unhealthy 7, I used to clean and move everything in my room around once a week. I literally could not stop moving. I could not complete or commit to any projects, or even commit to a loving relationship. I remember not being able to feel anything. I was so unhealthy I remember feeling like I could legitimately murder someone and still not feel anything. And the worst part was, I was unfaithful to my perfect 4 girlfriend, because my stupid 7 was always looking around for something “better”. And now years later, I am now drowning in all of this pain my 7 has brought upon me. I am starting to feel again, but I still have 1 very bad problem. MY BRAIN WON’T SHUT UP! It constantly thinks and runs. I try so hard to stop it, but it refuses to just stop and feel the moment. Any advice? Anything will help. Thank you Dr. Tom. P.S I am your biggest fan

Just curious, do 7s often have a hard time making lasting friends? I know they are fun. But I know a couple sevens and they have the worst time creating friendships. They don't have a hard time creating lasting long-term romantic relationships but creating quality friendships seems difficult.

I can give you a reply as a seven who has done quite a bit of self work on this. I realized lately that I have friends who are truly very dear to me -- but to whom I haven’t connected with in weeks, months, even years. But I will actually think of them as being close friends whomI love dearly. Sounds nuts right? Well, it is. But I will explain: The seven is a mental type. We have a profound amount of mental energy. And even more so , we have a profound need for mental stimulation -that’s external mental stimulation (travel, learning, discovering) or self-stimulation through imagining, planning, telling stories to oneself etc). So, I realized recently that a big reason that i dont think to reach out to my friends is they already feel present to me because I am thinking of them-particularly true of friends that I’ve had for a long time. Friends from school or other parts of my past. But the reality was that, Even though I thought of them often, in reality I have drifted from them because I don’t take the time to reach out and call them or write to them. Here’s why: A seven is in the a “thinking” type group, who is often thinking about action, and then moving on to thinking about the next action. And so on...all without actually DOing the action. So the sevens that you know maybe expending mental energy on their friendships and thinking that that is enough. I know that sounds really disconnected reality- and it is- But sevens are expert at being disconnected from reality that is their entire mode of operation. And That is certainly what I was doing. However, recently I have realized that if my friends can’t feel action in my relationships with them then that isn’t a growing building friendship that is just Nostalgia. I am working on myself in this regard. And I’m setting aside time to actually write notes to my friends that I think about when I think about them instead of just thinking of them and moving on to the next thought. Anyway, I hope that gives you a little bit of insight about your “7” friends who may have drifted from you or who you may feel aren’t active participants in your life. It may be that they want to be. But they are distracted, in fact distracting themselves, from their own pain so much and that running away from pain actually takes a lot of energy. So the idea of reaching out consistently can feel very overwhelming to seven. I hope that’s helpful. Keep loving your sevens they can be absolutely maddening I realize - but they need your love and they do love you, it’s just that sometimes all that frenetic activity that they use to run away from their own pain gets in the way of showing love. Finally, I Want to thank you on, the behalf of your seven friends, for your obvious care for them and i apologize for bewilderment they may have caused you- I know I have caused a lot of that myself and I’m working on remedying it in my own life and with my relationships. -- Ps One thing to remember and that I think gets lost often and KZbin videos about the Enneagram. Including the ones that Pastor Lahae does… Is that the any a gram is a diagnostic tool for dysfunction. It’s not just a fun personality test. It’s a little bit like someone having cancer who needs treatment...saying “oh I have just discovered by taking this test that I am a cancer!” And they read all the books about the traits of having cancer, they might even get a bumper sticker that says they have cancer, but they never use the diagnosis of cancer to go get treatment that will kill them. And the whole point of the Enneagram is to help us to pinpoint the things that are really damaging and hurting us the core wounds that we are reacting to and behaving and our behavior is often manifestations of reactions to pain. The enneagram was originally used to help people, by diagnosing the big sin that held them back from spiritual growth. So if you can think about the pain in a seven and the frenetic activity that they use to cover up that pain results in a lot of broken relationships, perhaps that will give you some compassion toward your friends that carry a burden. Instead of thinking about them as incapable of having long-term relationships, just think of them as being hurt people who could potentially grow if they saw how this behavior affects the people in their life. Sharing your feelings might be a good place to start. I think if you can say it in an affirming and loving way, then potentially a seven could hear it, particularly if you said that the reason you were telling them is because you want to have a closer relationship with them and that they are safe with you. We are all little bit broken and the Enneagram helps to see our brokenness potentially with the goal of being able to grow through the things that unconsciously hold us back from the wholeness and true happiness and love that we are seeking.

I'm a 7/8 and I have had no problem making or keeping friends. I actually find myself more loyal and more willing to look someone up after a number of years than others I know. Perhaps that's part of the 6 wing. I will say however that sometimes my first instinct is to flee a relationship when it gets uncomfortable, and then I think through the options and settle down.

7w6 I have a hard time making lasting friendships by myself. What I mean is, it's hard to make NEW lifelong friends. I can become friends with my sister's friends, with my cousins' friends, and with my friends' friends, and I will stay good friends with them forever (as long as we stay in the same physical area so that we can get together regularly, or we make an effort to meet if we live far apart). But it's difficult to go to a new place all alone and make new good friends "cold". I actually moved/gave up a well paying career so that I could be close to my family and friends. I need them, they're not replaceable by fun acquaintances. I certainly do feel trapped sometimes and wish to escape, but then I think about it for a second and realize that I'd rather be trapped with people I love than free all by myself.
