How ironic.... a teacher sacked for not referring to an individual, as being plural. If a first class kid referred to an individual, as they/them, would they not expect the teacher to teach the proper english pronoun and correct the kid ??

@@YerMan7802 he was sacked for an angry, loud and unacceptable outburst directed at the principal in a crowded function. He denies this happened as he has denied all the other angry outbursts in court. He was not sacked for refusing to use pronouns.

Absolutely, and there are tapes and you tube videos of the mothers over the top rants and raves, (appears entirely unstable) very sad for the sons and family listening to that vitriol most likely their entire lives, bound to have a terrible affect on ALL of them . Very sad, how an unstable figure in the family can have such long reaching damaging life destroying affects. Too sad.

Terry, it's my understanding that the taxpayer pays all teacher salaries. Private schools pay a top up to the teachers.

The following is a very interesting important point, when people are bullies it shows up in more ways than one and of course having lived with that his entire life - is too sad for E/him and his siblings - the mother is clearly uber aggressive and a bully - clearly on tape as evidence on you tube, pushing and aggressively launching into someone, in their face stance - that is NOT normal interaction. She obviously thinks its ok for her, but IT ISN'T - not for anyone to conduct themselves in such an over the top, bullying, aggressive manner. Shameful. "he had zero entitlement to demand the instruction be withdrawn from everyone else. Furthermore, he allegedly shouted at his boss in front of pupils and parents in church and at a dinner. For this he was suspended and sacked. Nobody gets to behave like that and get away it. This guy has been causing trouble since starting college. He had a lifetime ban from the Christian Union imposed on him. Everyone is wrong except him"

Sadly the mothers over the top aggression -That is the complete opposite of what mothering is, all the yelling, being aggressive, pushing her face into others, bullying, what a tyrant she is (as evident in videos of her yelling and being the aggressor). Her children don't even know any better (they have suffered so) as this is what she has home schooled them on, morning, noon and night, how could they be right in the world?!?!. They don't know what normal discourse and interaction is. Too sad. It's all aggression and shouting in their world, to them., to others from her (the mother - who is clearly off kilter, a disturbed woman and most likely always has been). Clearly needs treatment for her aggression and over the top bullying.No surprise that her children have been subjected to her abuse and torrents and are now doing the same. Too sad.

Most if not all employment contracts outline a complaints process. Shouting at the principal in a crowded room at a busy function is not how it's done. We've seen the same behaviour in court and yet Enoch thinks it's OK.

The tax payer funds the schools its ethos should what ever the Tax Payer says it is as the saying goes he who pays the piper calls the tune. You want to decide a schools ethos fund it yourself in full.

On the topic of religious values how many Billions, did the Irish State using the peoples pay the Churches' victims as the Church did not pay, I believe is was 2+. As for principles I believe in the principle you cannot be allowed to deft a court order.

The 'Great Commission' for any Christian, according to scripture, is to spread the Gospel. The Gospel= The Good News, is that Jesus Christ is Lord & paid the price for the sins of mankind, for those that follow him. Nothing the Burkes have done have fulfilled the Great Commission effectively. They undermined the CU in their University & have harassed fellow Christians in their vicinity for years. The fact that one of their causes is luck for them in their goal for a 'righteous fight' that get's the attention of the world on them, rather than a sincere service to humanity

Proselytism and "spreading" have the unfortunate nature of damning those those who don't accept or "buy in". It is sad that HIS OWN aggressive behavior (most likely learned from his mother) that HE directed toward the principal in this case (and later any authority figure - as the mother has done/ and is aggressive and vitriolic to many/any authority figures ) was the reason for all of this. Of course he is entitled to his opinions, what he is not entitled to is to bully and push aggressively (learned all of this from his what seems like an unstable person, hurling abuse, his apparently mentally unstable/ mentally-ill mother - who likes to throw her own weight around and verbally abuse people (as clearly seen on tape). Very sad for ALL involved. There are processes, he could have worked with his union etc. if he had had a stable hand at his side to guide him, but he was subjected and had to listen to a torrent of/litany of grievances that she appears to have with life and everyone (thats not right or normal at all) that vitriol. Sadly he made the process far more difficult for HIMSELF. It is at his own hand and the choices he made, that escalated the entire thing. One interview showed that his mother was/is beligerant, aggressive, clearly mentally unstable, and her son most likely has had to listen to, endured that/ abuse for years (even listening to it is wounding and abuse) - this is what you get, the poor young man. She then digging her heels in, overly aggressively pushing him, egging him on. Very sad and shameful for her to have inflicted ALL of that on her own son/ family. That is NOT how you conduct yourself. Bullying and being the aggressor is not one of them.

This is madness, Terry. I assume because this is a civil case (Burke being incarcerated) allows him not to pay costs awarded against him by the court ? I'd consider that sequestration of Burke's assets is the only avenue left open to the appellant(s). His (Burke's) complete abrogation of responsibility in this regard is completely counter-intuitive - as is the cost to the taxpayers who are inadvertently paying for this delusion....

It needs to be remembered that Burke was initially disciplined because of his aggressive behaviour towards the school principal. It wasn't because he refused to use gender neutral pronouns. He could easily have voiced his concerns, refused to comply with the schools request to use these pronouns and then let the school decide what action to take after that. Had he done this, then the issue may well have developed very differently. It's unlikely they would have had any grounds to coerce him to modify his speech or to take any legal action. His stand would have been perceived as principled and his union would have been obliged to protect him. Unfortunately for him, he resorted to bullying, and that's the reason he's in this position. He made it very easy for the school and the courts to do what they did. He should have taken sound legal advice and been far more strategic. I have great sympathy for him because by all accounts, he's a decent human being and a good teacher but he didn't do the issue justice by his behaviour which left the school no real options.

He did try to engage with the principal and the other teachers by email and at a staff meeting. The Principal wasn't having any of it and the Board obviously were behind her. The unions would be no use - they are afraid of the lgbt lobby.

When you start dealing in facts and stop making stuff up you will be better off and better served. Beligerence runs in his family - starting with his mother who has railroaded their entire lives to this point. That is the saddest point of all. Mental illness is a terrible affliction. Very sad for all.
